I'm assuming most everyone is familiar with that style of production.

Is it safe to assume that we will see subscriptions with certain bonuses?

Perhaps we'll see a similar "turbine point" system where you gain points for mission successes and general time in game.(Veteran status)

Essentially having a host of cosmetic skins, paints, camos, logos etc that you can apply to your mech etc.

A lot of people cringe with the introduction of this system to the market,I was the same way, but as I played more of the "new" version of LOTRO, I didn't mind it so much. I gained points over time and got a monthly allowance for being a VIP and picked a few odds and ends up as I went along. Obviously battletech would have a wealth of more interesting things to spend said points on.

Curious where peoples heads are on this topic these days.

Personally, I'd prefer a one time fee for the game it's self and then have cosmetic DLC available for purchase.

I'll hold off to see how the combined companies produce this game and run it before I make a decision about whether or not I like the model for this game. Most likely, from what I've read and seen, if it's delivered, I will spend a ****-ton of money on this game. My hope, in doing so, is to eventually see in-game role-playing aspects beyond having a 'pilot' I can improve with time, as with the original board game. I will love the fighting until then, and I am not a member of the blind, I just want to see how it's done and, being F2P, if it turns out to be what I don't want it to be, I can always walk away.

I think right up until launch day that we cannot truly say how the aspect of F2P will affect MW:Online.

In interviews Bryan and the others on the development team said they hoped to implement a system almost like in League of Legends where players can spend real world currency to buy a hero OR you could save up your in-game currency and buy the same hero. The decision is up to the player to say "hey is this champion really worth 5$?".

Another example people bring up is the World Of Tanks model, which I admit I am not to familiar with due to not playing the game myself. From what I can determine there is a "premium" option which grants bonus experience and in-game currency %'s per game you play. There are also I believe exclusive tanks to own but from what I hear is that they are kind of cosmetic in the fact that all the parts they use or you can upgrade to you can get on other tanks.

There are other models but I think from what I have read that these two best represent what the team wants to do with MW:Online, but with that being said we will never truly know until later word is passed down or launch day.

I would like to see a F2P "freemium" model like LOTRO.
  • play F2P if you like to and pay nothing
  • pay a subscription if want to get access to all special features and free internal "points"

Not sure if one time payment with only cosmetic DLC would work. Servers & devs have to be paid ...

The largest reason that I stay optimistic about the quality of this game is because it is being made by PGI, a known VIDEO GAME creator that has a decent track record of success. I could not have those same feelings if the crew from the last set of MW games was in charge of this project. The only other dev that has made a worthy BT game was Day 1 studios. But PGI has a good pool of talent.

they have made a bass fishing game a horrid transformers game and two racing games. This is a little more complex. I hope this game gets the attention it deserves

But I hope all the matches are to the death with no capture the flag ****, and when your mech is down its down, ammo also better be in here. legs and arms should be able to fly off at a minimum, hopefully that reboot video was actuall game footage which would atleast mean a good destructive enviroment.

Hope they have more then just cities but forest desets etc.

I said this to a friend today. "Look at it this way, they helped launch Duke Nukem: Forever. Nothing is impossible for them!"

Have yet to play a F2P game that held a candle to a subscription-based game. I'd rather pay a sub to ensure that Piranha has the regular funds to properly maintain and develop the game.

Perhaps they will accept donations.

I have to agree. I would rather pay for a subscription then a F2P type of system. I guess just have to wait and see. I really do hope they do all that they are saying and I hope strategy, custom paint jobs/markings and so on happen, along with territory holding and a economic type of system is worked in. This game could be awesome and I would drop a lot of money into something like that. Look at WW2 Online: Battleground Europe for an example of econmic changes and holding/taking territories.

I certainly hope not. Last man standing matches are boring slugfests that are biased towards heavy armour and camping. There better be actual objectives.

Once again. This is not an MMORPG. I play and am subscribed to LOTRO, so I like your attempt here, but, no. Just no.
We'll see a premium money type (Because there always is in F2P games) and whether or not you can earn that in-game through some grind or what not is really up to Piranha. They don't have to, and there is a greater than 50% chance they will not. I will be throwing whatever cash I have at them no matter the type.
So far the game really sounds like World of Tanks, but we don't really KNOW anything yet, just vague responses on the FAQ. All they have been saying in QnA is that they are trying to get the PR up so that we "know" that Piranha cares about the game. Which I believe they do.
But there has to be a profit. No one is going to just develop a multi-thousands of dollar game for free and just say,
"Here you go! Have fun with this game while we are now bankrupt and you will never get an update for the game except an attempt to atone for our sins and extort money from you now!" (Oh wait.......... That HAS happened to games before.)

Anyways.... Back to discussion.

*EDIT* Also to the above comments that seem to be pretty Off-Topic, yes there better be objectives because I don't want another Mechwarrior4 Multiplayer Experience. I play it still. Doesn't mean I like it. Everyone is a Heavy or Assault and it totally destroys the meaning of Mechwarrior. "Giant robots slugging it out to the death" is supposed to be the beginners/noobies thoughts to get them into the franchise, not the seasoned vet's........

I'd like to direct your attention to Team Fortress 2. Those guys are rolling in dough.

By the looks of Gabe Newell I might be inclined to think that this has actually happened at some point.

Also, casually directing attention towards the video in my sig.
