I was playing a lot of my Tbolt. And I love me some T-bolt.
So I got to thinking how cool would it be to have an assault mech that would have the hitboxes of the Tbolt? Now I consider the Tbolt to have the best hitboxes in all of MWO. Massive arms, moderate side torso's and small ct.
The Amount of punishment this mech can take is simply amazing. So looking over at Sarna the one build that really fit the bill was the Zues.
We could build it short and squat and wide. To be the pre patch centurion of the assaults. You didn't necessarily carry a whole lot of weaponry, but you were tough as nails to bring down simply because you had to peel it like an onion. Go through the arms - > Side torso -> CT.
At best, our work will only end up being a inspiration for PGI to make the Zues in game, so we built it towards that goal and what Bishop and I envisioned a Zues would look like in MWO.
The Box launcher was a really big push on my end. I really wanted it in. I thought a arm mounted bay door would not only make the mech that much tougher (10% dmg rez when closed) but it would look really cool when it opened up almost like a hand, a thumb and two fingers.
The Energy weapons I wanted to treat the same way. Higher mount for the side torso and shoulder drawing some inspiration from this picture.
Overall is it a little off from the original TRO? Hell yeah.
It's Bishops and my version of a Zues and we should hope it would be different enough to claim as our own without just rehashing old lines but enough to take the essence making it easily recognizable.
Personally: I think we nailed it.

Texturing is proceeding.
Slow going though as I paint, apply the texture look for distortion, adjust the UVmap to correct then go back repaint and refine.

no offense to Matt Plog, who I like a lot, but that rendition of the Zeus never did it for me.

Glad you approve. The 3025 TRO, while dated, was what got me drawing mechs oh those many years ago. And while I was not impressed with what Loose did int he 3058 TRO, I still dig the look and feel of a lot of that 3025 book-

So after both Bishop and I have completed our entries into the Pimp your mech contest it is back to business on the Zues. After discussion on the matter it was decided that we needed to redo the torso of the Zues itself as it was. A. too organic with odd placed angles and B. not MWO enough.
Here is the rebuilt torso
This is not only a bit cleaner giving a more machine look but also allows a much easier job of texturing
Now that it's done it's back to texturing and rendering the textures.

I have only one gripe; in your interpretation of BS's work you have made the PPC very long and thin like. Almost like an AC like weapon loosing the big focusing lens look, but other than that I'm liking the new torso. Indeed great co-op work you two.

actually, He is using the base 6S with the AC5 in that pic. Though, in truth, I hope that one ends up with the cylindrical launcher, and the box goes to the 6T with the PPC.
