PGI mentioned player made bounties, and it seemed like a well received idea. But I am at a loss as to what it actually does to improve game play at all. It would seem to make a lot more sense in a game where it wasn't constant PvP and where death had some kind of meaning.

Player A puts a bounty on Player B, and it then collected by Player C. Player A is out the Cbills for the bounty. Player C gets a windfall of Cbills. Player B is...unaffected? I mean, every game there is 12 people trying to kill him anyway. What does he care if one gets some extra Cbills?

I think it will be incorporated into CW somehow. As you stated I don't think it will much "impact" in the current form but CW sounds like there's going to be much more going on

I'm sure you, me, road, and a few others will have more than a couple of bounties placed on us at some point. I think If the bountied player survives they should get a bonus to their c-bills though. Maybe a chunk of the bounty that was offered? So it keeps dwindling the longer a player goes without having it collected?

Why would anyone put a bounty on you? You're one of the least abrasive personalities on the forum. Heck, you're almost ready for volunteer mod status!

Hmm... maybe you're *too* nice, and that will rub someone the wrong way. Ooh! Let's be arch-nemesises...nemesii... nememenies... Let's be arch-enemies! No ERP though... at least for the first month or two.

I see it like Texas Hold'm knockout bonuses... If someone accepts the bounty challenge, (puts a pro all in) they:
- a.) Take down the mark and win the bounty's payout.
- b.) Get taken out by the mark and the hunter and person invoking the bounty take a c-bill hit and the mark collects the bounty payout.

The person invoking a bounty has to stake at least a portion of the bounty lest it just becomes a faultless 3-ring circus.

I'm hoping that they'll put more thought into it. I like DaZur's idea but I would go further with it. For example:

I take a bounty out on Heffay (which is a likely scenario lol): There will be a place in the lobbies to see what bounties are currently active. A player must actively accept the bounty and pay a small fee (perhaps 10% of the total bounty?) to be able to collect said bounty. That way a random player doesn't just kill Heffay and collect the bounty. A player that accepts the bounty loses his retainer fee if he finds Heffay in game and does not collect (that fee goes to Heffay?) The bounty stays in effect but any other players still wanting to collect must actively take it and pay the fee. If the bounty IS collected the player has his fee returned and collects the total bounty.

I'm not sure player made bounties are really going to add anything. Perhaps a "Ooooooh, new shiny" for a short while before it is replaced with "Meh" as the novelty wears off. Plus, there is always the risk of abuse in leveraging it as a c-bill transfer platform between players. Think PuG's are like herding cats? Wait till a high bounty is on the other team and half the team goes running off after that single mech.

I can say with 90% certainty that the only use I would get out of the bounty system is to just put out bounties on my IRL buddy that I group up with. And when he figures it out, I'm sure he'd do the same to me.

I think my idea would help curb that though. if you have to pay 1,000,000 c-bills for a shot at a 10,000,000 bounty then you're going to think twice before accepting it. I see this as more of a high-end endgame type mechanic. There are players with hundreds of millions of c-bills. If they put a hundred million bounty on a player and you have to front 10,000,000 that you will lose if you don't succeed in collecting the bounty then you're out that cash.

The bounty should only be acceptable to a single party... As you eluded, an open bounty would lead to all sorts of stupidity.

There obviously also needs to a a pairing mechanism to ensure the two have opportunity to cross paths, otherwise it'd be like finding a needle in a haystack for the bounty hunter...

You say that like it's a bad thing? :)

It's a novelty additon to be sure... That said, anything above "drop, kill, repeat" would be welcome in my book.

Personally, I'd be happy to drop a few space-bucks in order to flip the proverbial finger at some forum antagonists by putting bounties on their heads... :o

That's the thing. Features like this aren't going to be game changing. They're just a way to sink some c-bills and actually have some fun. I'm personally taking out a bounty on Road, Heffay, Joseph, and a few others just because I can lol

exactly!!! Some of the d**che noodles on here might start thinking twice about the 20th time they're hunted down right at the beginning of a match and killed off early cutting into their c-bill earnings. Although we'd have QQ to end all QQs about "Moooooooooooooooom! Timmy shot me before I could earn the maximum amount of c-bills again!"
