Another use of tag at short range support, is it'll help co-ordinate focused fire.
Just call out your plan at match start, and mention focus fire on tagged mechs when possible. It'll be a visual cue for PuGers to focus fire when the brawl starts.

I hate to point it out again, but the XL255 is a major upgrade on the XL245 because you get 0.6 more heat dissipation for the half a ton extra, and you can do 151kph - speed being the best defence for lights.
I guess the plan is to dodge around the legs of the enemy herd? Even before the Spider nerf that wouldn't have worked - better to stay hidden and safely dial in the data to your lurm boat - so this is your ultimate support Spider: SDR-5D Scout
TAG is on the arm to let you spot from around cover, but you still have an ER-PPC for sniping and an ML for dealing with other lights. You only need one JJ, more gives no great advantage beyond messing around for ages trying to get to some high point where you can't really see the action anyway.
You don't need much armour on the left arm, there's nothing useful loaded on it, and it's probably better to front load your armour on the torso too, as you'll mostly be peeking from behind cover and have the risk of taking gauss shot to the face.
You probably already know where the enemy are going to be on a given map, so just run around behind them and TAG someone who isn't so visible to his friends. He likely won't notice he's been lit up until the sky gets dark with missiles. When you get spotted, shoot someone with the PPC and move on to the next hidey hole.
