Just went on - My ping bordered along 1000ms...holy scrap! Please PGI could you check your severs. I've done everything advised. I dunno what else to do or tell you...the problem is at your end. Will now try uninstalling and reinstalling but if that doesn't work...I'm out of options.

Man, you think you got it bad!
My ping is never below 280 - but usually a bit above 300... sometimes 400. It's unpleasant but I can still deal with that. It's when it goes over 600 that it gets impossible to play. Lately, the last two days since the update, my ping has been in the seconds - often 3500ms! This is simply nuts - especially when you have premium time ticking away while they work in a solution after they patch. Perhaps PGI can offer us an explanation why.

Also, the latest patch has doomed me with the black screen bug - but that could quite possibly relate to the crazy ping (good title by the way OP, that's how I found this thread). Alt tabbing lots of times usually works but is a right pain and I miss the lobby chatter. Were any solutions to this issue eventually dug up?

Many thanks

Feedback: Using Pingtest.net and testing to Sudbury, Canada yields a "D" rating for my connection, but a steady 300ms (I expected 280) and, most importantly, a Jitter effect of only 9 ms.

I know for certain when checking in game my Ping often Spikes at 400+ ms. Often. I could not reproduce this effect via Pingtest to Sudbury.

For your attention, PGI.

I'm also from the ASIA PACIFIC REGION and I can confirm that I am also affected by the same problem. My usual Average Latency is 200-250ms now it's 500-1000ms.

Perhaps their routing for this region was affected/changed from the latest patch/maintenance.

---

System ALL CLEAR + DSL @ 6mbps with no packetloss.... It's definitely a routing issue.

Forget using a 3rd party site to test your ping or your routing to a site (like MWO) as it is usually quite inaccurate. Bring up the command processor (DOS box) in windows. Can't find it? Try searching for CMD or type CMD into the RUN box in the START icon on the taskbar.

MWO's game server IP is 70.42.29.65. On the DOS command line enter "ping 70.42.29.65". Do it twice. The second time is more accurate as the first run does some internal house cleaning which extends the first of the four pings that it averages out for you making the first run inaccurate.

Want to know the path your signal takes down the internet highway? Often when your ping changes radically it is because your routing to MWO was changed. In the same DOS box enter "tracert 70.42.29.65" (tracert = Trace Route) This will display a list of all the hubs your signal is passing through to get to MWO and the time for each "jump" from one hub to the next. If your routing changes quite regularly I would contact my internet provider and find out why.

EDIT: BTW, the ping value and final tracert value should be close to being the same. If not, run both again.

I usually play at 10pm Asia Pacific time and that's when the Ping is 500 - 1000++. BUT during the day, my ping is normalize and back to 260 average which was what I always had prior to the last two patches and I've been playing for a year. Anybody have any idea why that is??? Someone else on another thread postulated that it could be because PGI uses 2 servers. One for Mech lab and one for matches. I dunno if there's any truth to that but answers and more importantly fixes would be appreciated.

contact support at pgi and post this stuff in patch feedback, likely to get more help that way.

I did bring it up 2 patches ago. Problem still persists.

It's very difficult to tell the reason for that. For starters you could analyze what network hops your connection is routed through and how much delay there is between each hop, on windows using netstat and tracert ("traceroute").

Instructions:

Open a Windows command console (start menu -> search for programs -> enter 'cmd' hit enter -> new window with console will pop up)
Open MWO and connect to a game
Tab down; type in your command prompt "netstat" (this will take a while)
When netstat is done you can see the IP of MWO's servers
Use "tracert <IP>" to see all the details

Tracert is going to show you how long it takes to connect to your own ISP and what route all your network packets take to get to the MWO server.

Without doing this it is merely speculation and since you haven't been doing this before the last patch it is kinda hard to come up with a conclusion what went worse in comparision to previous state.

I followed the instruction by WhenReaperComes
and got the following

>7 Hops, mean about 284 via tracert
ping to mwtactics.com is roughly the same,
Variance in ping both times less than 10 ms.

If any of the guys with more knowledge could interpret that.

All in all though it seems ok-ish to me, as far as it goes, but I get the Lag indicator in game more than once, and it is now almost every game. And Tab still states spikes of up to 400ms and more

Oh, and 0% packet loss.

Did tracert too...during a game...apparently when it hit number 16 to the number 30 hop I had "request timed out" - could this be the cause of my high Ping? Who do I talk to?

I will try some of these fixes tonight. Man my ping has been sucking lately...due to where I live it's $139 a month for 25mb/s internet. Damn shame when I have a ping of 3000! :/

Just checked ping with command prompt, both ping check and tracert was 73ms....

also from asia pacific region same problems post patch and nothing else is affected except mwo.
used to have 200-250ms now its 500-1000ms.

also did ping and tracert and it will block you past the 15th hop. i also have a 230ish ping to canada so the net infrastructure is there. im almost certain this is a pgi thing. ive sent them an email, hopefully they can sort things out .

Do "tracert /?" and you will get a list of command line over rides. One of them is to set the maximum number of hops, allowing you to go past the 15th hop.
