RCN is bad for two reasons.

One being RC in general is a terrible map in terms of size and map layout.
The second is the lightning in general makes zero sense at all, and doesn't make sense (why is it brighter further away than point blank? Why is there no ambient light being given off by all the city lights and fire?!)

Should it be removed? Nah

Should it be reworked significantly? Hells yes.

This and im all up to night maps on every map. oh and i need a damn reflector on my mech and more Vision mode\modules otherwise just take out the map as long as i dont have option not to play with out Black and White , Green and White
or at least make it more rare till then.

River City Night is probably my least favourite scenario, however that is no reason to get rid of it. We really shouldn't be asking for any of the maps to be dropped (And that includes Terra Therma) when there are so few to start with.

Traditionally map provision has followed a simple (Relatively except for the extra coding) path: Daylight, Night and maybe Snow. All of these variations are useful and provide tactical differences; for example take Forest Colony Snow. Units stand out more against the snow covered terrain.

My favourite map is Tourmaline Desert. One of the first to have a genuine large expanse where Recon can be used effectively to support the Assaults. I would really like to see a Night version of this; imagine all those heat signatures standing out when the Desert gets cold.

Just for the OP, I want "River City Night Global Warming" where its the River City Night map, but 100 degrees C. Followed by "River City Night Ice Age" so we can have three variants of the River City Night map. ;)

Most games on it go like this. Because of 750m vision range nobody wants to blunder into an ambush, so upper team goes upper, lower team goes lower, caprace.

Ehem... are you one of those people who helpless flail about left to right trying to figure out where I am when I start hammering you from 1.2k out because I use normal vision as well as night and thermal? I had lots of training in the late 90s and early 2000s with Alien Vrs Predator 1&2 and the different vision modes. Learn to flick between vision modes and you will get a lot better results.

Hey, all the maps have their challenges. I LOVE Alpine peaks, I don't like River City Night BUT I wouldn't want it removed. Some people do very well on one map and suffer epic fails on another. River City Night isn't the map of choice for the OP, I can feel for him but I do not support removing the map. Perhaps expanding it up behind the landing strip and Dam and up onto the hills with the towers (like it was when it first came out) would refresh the map. But don't remove it.

I am colorblind and for some reason the night vision and thermal vision are really bad on River City when they are not that bad on Frozen City Night. I think it is the way the colors are with the night/thermal vision and the buildings, but it strains my eyes to a degree that I am near useless for my team.

I'm not a fan of any of the smaller maps being conquest, but that is another problem.

Bad maps and matches make you appreciate the good ones even more. If all the maps were awesome they would soon loose their luster. :)

All of the maps have pros and cons. The only reason I don't like Therma is the overwhelming amount of times I'm forced to play it each day. When I sign on, choose my mech, click ready and I see Terra Therma pop up on my screen, I get a sharp pain in my right ********.

Ive had many good fights there. River City Night is here to stay IMO
Now, what we really need to get rid of is Terra Therma.....

Try the H key on Terra Therma to liven it up. :)

I love River City at night. I like using night/heat vision and being able to find plenty of cover.

I hate it. it would be ok if it were a valley map but the city map make everything a pain to navigate.

Thats why I like it... more difficult to navigate.

I think people are complaining about the wrong thing. The problem with the night mode maps is the horribly implemented vision modes. Maybe if night vision and infrared worked correctly, there would be less anger about the night maps.

Funny, no one complains about frozen city night, where the light balance is horrible and wrong. Unless the planet is made from glowing ice.

River City and River City night are too small. The fact that one team can fire on another's base and usually have a clear shot at a target seconds from launch is a problem.

That said, the map itself isn't bad, it just needs to be at least 500m-1km bigger on each axis.

Ultimately, I think day/night should be an option on any map where you actually have day/night (not Tormouline Desert or TT, but all the others), but simply have it alternate without making it a different map.

River city night is River city day if you tweak your gamma and brightness unfortunately :P Night vision is useless. I like the night map idea, but people shoot you from beyond the night vision range because of the stupid brightness thing

I'd be fine with River City (Night) a little more if there were some kind of ambient light sources happening, as right now the darkness just makes the map bland and boring, forcing players to use night vision or heat vision. You wouldn't even have to make moonlight or anything, it's a damn city that's capable of generating its own light. Make light be generated from the buildings and street lamps for instance, just give us something so this map isn't just "night vision fight GO".
