So when UI2 is finally released sometime in 2014, what will the excuse be then? (For lobby, CW, game modes, etc).

Also, UI2 does NOTHING to enhance game play, re-playability, fun, or any other player retention metric. It is not like "UI2 is out, let's all go back and play more MWO. Let's get our guild back together and start back on the tornie play".

UI 2.0's back end is how they plan to implement CW, private matches, etc. Just because it doesn't DIRECTLY effect matches doesn't mean it's not important.

Chemie gets it too. He/she isn't a fool; they know that CW depends on UI2.0. But the point is that if you think UI2's release means CW is suddenly just around the corner, you're kidding yourself. What it means is that they can finally start working on CW, so it'll still be a year before we have anything new to actually play. As far as the player waiting for CW or some new content worth playing is concerned, UI2 might as well just have been an a change to the backend code that the user never ever sees and isn't even the kind of thing they put in the patch notes. Yes, it means we're getting closer, but until CW is actually here, there's nothing to be excited about. I have to assume that every single patch brings us closer to CW with changes being made to the backend, but nobody gets excited for patchdays anymore. UI2 is the same thing.

It's my experience that once I complete the backend, the elements of the front end are fairly easy to build and quick to implement.

Whether that's the case with PGI remains to be seen.

Oh yeah baby! You know that's how it works, every time! Gotta work hard on that backend first!

...

We still talking UI 2.0? I think I lost track of the thread.

I think they made a really poor decision to put everythign else on hold for UI2.0, that's probably the biggest misstep I've seen them make

The more you have, the longer it takes to convert, the greater number of mistakes are possible.
I don't mind that they've put so much on hold, rather that they took so long to get it started.

I would say once a piece falls into place from end to end then the other pieces are quicker to implement.
