I know this has been brought up before - but I think we need to kick this dead horse a little more. If a weapon that requires ammo is destroyed - why can't we dump said weapons ammo? Is there a mechanic that would prevent this? How easy would it be to add this feature to the game?
Lets face it - it would add to the "realism" and "immersiveness" of the game, and increase the survivablility of mechs.

I think in MW2 the default jettson button was K and all you had to do was select the weapon and press K to drop 1 ton of ammo per press.

Has this been brought up in ATD? And if so what was the answer from them?

This would be a good idea, I'd think it's not too hard to code.

No point in keeping ammo and dieing from an internal ammo explosion when the weapon was destroyed. I'm for dumping ammo.

I'm sure it was mentioned on ngng podcast that it's on the list, but ui2.0 and then cw are the prio.

Another buff for balistics? I dunno... seems like it will be even less of a risk to stuff your mech with ammo if you could do that.

Tho for me, it seems the ony explosions I ever get killed by is gauss-splosions.

HAHAHA I would love to see a new player running around accidentally dumping ammo everywhere, the going my guns wont fire! It does seem like a decent idea though. Maybe ammo, while on a campaign is to precious a resource to just dump it whenever a weapon is destroyed though.

I agree, it would be an unnecessary buff to ballistics. I don't see how it would be "realistic" even in Battletech universe though. Ammo is probably tucked in pretty tight into the chassis, it would be extremely hard to take those out outside mechbay.

Well...Don't forget that in the Battletech universe (or at least the Mechwarrior take on it), ammo can be stored in legs and freely move past leg and hip joints :).

I suppose it would be a bit of a buff to ballistics, but even if the option was in game, many people would forget to use it. Normally when a gun (torso mounted) is that baddly damaged, you are close to death and have more things to worry about. Ejecting ammo would be more of a benefit to a mech with an arm mounted gun (if the arm was destroyed), but you would still have to remember to use it.

The lack of ammo dumps doesn't currently bother me, but overall I would still like to see it added in game.

I'd like to see ammo dump work like it does in TT.

All that dumping ammo can be shot at from the rear arc creating a high chance for ammo explosions for one round and the mech is limited to walking speeds only during the process

oh, and no jumping

They could simplify the controls for it and just have the mech dump ammo when you try to fire a gun that is destroyed. (for example if AC10 is left mouse click and it's destroyed you will drop ammo every time you click the mouse)

Since I can kind of see where people are coming from with the "buff to ballistics" argument, I would feel better about it if it was a seperate key on the keyboard.

Just remember you have to stand still for 10 seco ds. Otherwuse it bouces off your legs and explodes!
(The TT rule requires you to remain stationary).

Personally, I don't think this would have any effect on the game at all. Relevant if you lse the ac then lose (go deeply internal) on a leg, then the ammo gets hit and THEN 10 percent explosion before you die from damage since you are now internal in ATleast two locations (arm or side torso and leg). So it is about as useful as a button to cycle what is on those little screens you can't see in your cockpit. It would be neat, but it is not worth developer time given that the game still hasn't reached a finished state.

It doesn't do anything if you have an XL engine or if the ammo is in your legs

Other thing nobody has bothered to point out? If your ammo does get destroyed, there's only a 10% chance of it cooking off.

I'd vote for an auto-dump.... if all weapons for an ammo type = 0, then jettison ammo... Not to hard to code at all.

It'd be an interesting mechanic, but I don't think its as crucial as some other things they could be working on. Its already a rather low chance of ammo explosion, and CASE already helps with that problem a bit as well. Plus you do get to choose where to place your ammo, so perhaps being a little more strategic in placing it can help. I wouldn't be against the implementation of this, even though I think it is a buff to ballistics.

I figure it's actually not that simple to program, because you need a way for the player to say what ammo to dump and what not to dump.

Make it automated..... If equip weapon type = 0, dump corresponding ammo. Give Betty something else to say too. :)
