5 pages for discussing an obvious thing...
Guys, some good scores dont mean that the chassis is good. A good player can do good scores with a bad chassis against average players and PUGs. Awesome is a bad chassis in terms of harpoints and hit sections compared with any other assault. And repeating the opposite wont change the truth.

I have an anecdote too! I didn't screencap it because it annoyed the hell out of me.

I took my PB out today, and experienced the new and improved torso sizes first hand when 2 AC 20s hit me in the side. Needless to say that was instant death, as the side happened to have already taken damage.

Now, with the old hitbox sizes, there's what, a 10-20% chance those shots would have hit my undamaged CT? Would've survived then.

I mean I guess I could have hung back like the heroes in this thread and let my team carry the front line to victory with me running "support" (what a useless term!) but I'm an Assault Mech, one of three on my team. I'm SUPPOSED to be the front line! If I want to "support" I'll frigging hill hump in my Firebrand.

Get over yourself! Its fun every once in a while to kick back and drop in hilarious mechs. People with your attitude ruin games that have great core gameplay but terrible gamemodes (like this one).

ac20 raven, 4 ppc cicada, 180m range exclusive 100+ alpha, etc are awesome ways to spice up game play. Its a game and your way isnt the only way to play it or have fun.

Yeeah see communities of gamers tend to disagree with you there. See "trolling". League of Legends is a great example - there are about 3-4 different options for reporting people in that game regarding running dumb builds, purposefully dying to the enemy team, refusing to co-operate with their team, etc. etc.

If you want to troll, go ahead, but don't justify it as "unique builds", "kicking back" or some other horse shit. Being a dummy and spoiling the game so you can "have fun" in obviously terrible builds is a pretty selfish attitude to take in my opinion, and if you do so you should fully expect to be reported or called out. Everyone's done it mind you, but trying to glorify it as something cool or inventive, or trying out niche builds is just being arrogant!

besides with the old hitboxes, your CT wouldn't have been undamaged, so you would have died because of CT kill....

You mistake my motives and the definition of trolling. I enjoy running odd builds due to the enjoyment I get crushing meta/fotm/generic players. I dont run bad builds to troll the community I use them to push myself and enjoy winning against all odds.

There is very little gameplay variation due to the limited number of game modes. Which are in a nutshell, the same. So excuse me if i dont load up on ac10s, ac2/5s and start spamming opponents to death. Im that guy who plays for fun. 1.5+ mil xp in my ylw should give you a clue.

Im anti cookie cutter, hell even bishop doesnt approve of my wang methods... So if you cant see my side of things then pull your head out of your RT and go play 12 mans till you get you get all the generic bs u crave

The only solution to the Awesome is to resize it. Even making it's shoulder's the arm hitbox still won't do much.

Fun builds only stay fun builds until they become Meta because they turn out pretty much usefull on the Field.
How do you guys get to your Loved-Ubar-Builds? yeah, you either tryed them on the Field, or you grabed the idear from someone who tryed it on the Field.
Stop blaming peoples for trying out stuff.
Even if its just for fun, those are the builds your own configs are based on.

If you really believe it is trolling, then why not go ahead and report each and every player you see using an Awesome or any build you dislike? Or are you one of those "all talk, no action" kids?

If you're wondering whether I reported the AC40 Cicada, and his Stalker buddy who the entire team was shouting at to open fire, but wouldn't because the other Mech left alive on our team was "dueling" a Jager at 50 paces... Then yeah, I did report them. I wish I were a kid, that would mean I could still live off mum and dad, but in that case, I'd also probably be into all this dubstep rubbish too. Now get off my lawn!

There's loads of fun builds you can run that are useful to your team too.

Then there are just obviously horrible builds that you *know* aren't going to stack up well but run anyway. Ok fine, you want to run a silly build (7 LLAS Hunchback anyone) but hiding an obvious troll attempt beneath a facade of "this is new and inventive!!" is rubbish! You know it's going to get destroyed, but you play it anyway because you're going to die hilariously. In this case, you should not get all righteous when one of your team mates gets peeved that you've thrown the game for your own amusement, and own up to the fact that yes, you're being a bit of a nob.

What annoys me is people saying utter nonsense like "it's none of your concern what I bring into a match" when the fact that you're now on my team makes it very much my, and the other ten player's concern!

Once again, if you're going to troll go for it, but admit that it's trolling!

What absolute garbage...

If you are basing your opinion on coordinated team gameplay, particularly if you are engaging in team-on-team matches... absolutely, the team should have some say in regards to what is brought onto the battlefield...

That said, in PUG drops, I'm not about to placate a meta nor allow you to predicate what I choose to run because the top-tier intelligentsia has defined it as worthless. :D

Even absolute garbage builds have opportunity to contribute to a win... Agreeably, they have to work harder to contribute and may ultimately not "carry" as hard as other players running meta-driven builds... but that's their decision, not yours or anyone elses for that matter.

Like I said if you are that bothered by it go play 12 mans! Youre the only one preaching here. I enjoy honour duels, running glass cannons, goofy builds. If you need everyone to play ultra serious and bring the best mechs then dropping in the Pug queue is your own fault and mistake.

You play the game how it makes you happy and I'll do the same. Everyone wins

Well then it seems we will be agreeing to disagree. I believe that team work is everything even when dropping with people you have never met or care about, if for nothing else than simply as a sign of respect to the other random players that you wish to do your absolute best to work toward victory. This means bringing a well thought out build to the fray.

I think I understand now. For me, enjoyment of this game comes from working with my team toward a common goal, even when I'm dead I don't just drop out of a game, I'll cheer my team on and congratulate them on a well fought game, and apologise for my own poor play if it has cost us dearly.

For other players, simply dropping into a game and pratting about with AC20 Ravens with neither respect nor regard for their team mates is enough.

Apples and oranges I suppose, I think we're done here fellas.

The Awesome needs model changes, not hitbox ones.

Things that can't be monetized immediately are somewhere down low on PGI's "To-Do" list. Even if doing them will benefit PGI in the long run. "There's no tomorrow" business strategy: funny thing to watch from the outside, but sucks to be a client of an enterprise that is doing things this way.

In all fairness... in PUG drops the quality of the match is more dependant upon the player than the mechs they run...

True... "bad players" have a higher tendency to run "bad mechs"... But that's more inexperience than making concerted effort to handicap their team.

Just to digress... While I understand you not appreciating the random quality of PUG play, especially considering your approach to game-play... That said, it's the nature of the beast when you PUG.

I didn't mean to come off so harsh but the forwarded premise that one has to "carry hard" to be taken seriously has grown thin... People play this game for various reasons and with equally varying investment... Expecting casual players to be as vested as you is just a little over the top IMHO.

Just wanted to note (yeah, that's total offtopic) that IMO in a PUG drop the quality (and the outcome) of a match is decided by whether you have a good premade on your side or not. You alone, however good or bad you are, have very little influence on the "quality" (or anything else) of a match. After >5000 drops, 99.9% of which were solo I feel strongly demotivated to play the game because of that. Turning into "Forum Warrior" I guess B).

I can only agree with you partially...

While It would be completely disingenuous for me to try to imply pre-mades have no influence on match play... I think you are guilty of giving "all" PMs too much credit.

The reality is, like individual players, the quality of PMs span the gamut of skill and proficiency... Thus it's fair to say, not all PMs are created equal. B)

Granted I can't qualify what your Elo is but for me and my Elo... it's nearly a 50/50 whether I get a proficient PM in my drops...
