JJs alone dont make a mech good though. Look at the Catapult, its terrible. What makes mechs like the Jenner, Shadowhawk, Highlander, etc... good is the fact they have jumpjets and LITTLE OR NO DOWNSIDE.

Jenner has 6 hardpoints. WHY? Why does it get JJ and more firepower than other lights? It doesnt make any sense.

Shadowhawk has 7 hardpoints. Why does the Shadowhawk outgun a K2 with no jumpjets? Again it makes no sense.

Highlanders have the same Dual AC5/Dual PPC or AC20/Dual PPC setup as an Atlas? Again, WHY? Why does the Highlander with jumpjets get the same damage potential as an Atlas?

These mechs just arnt balanced compared to other mechs in the game.

Yes they are balanced. I run a C1. ECM kills my main weapon system totally. I have to expose myself to tag or get super close. JJ allow me to survive. How in the heck are JJs better?

JJs have plenty of disadvantages. Learn to fight them. STopin whining and wanting everything you cannot cope with nerfed.

Clearly you did not read any of my posts. I stated explicitly that the Catapult is one of the few mechs balanced around having jumpjets. It has 2 less hardpoints than other heavy mechs.

The mechs that are NOT balanced are mainly the Highlander and Jenner, which get no downsides whatsoever for having jumpjets.

It is game design.

Some people came here for a mech simulator rather than a first person shooter.

Players gimp the highlander with the terrible weapons fit that's currently prevalent so they give themselves a downside.
Forward thrust and screenshake make it difficult to tart effectively so its little more than a nuisance in most cases until you run across a player that has the skill to do it effectively.
As for jenners? nope. just nope.
If you have a bad time against tarts then i suggest you lrn2play.

Since the overlord promo i'm seeing that there is a lot of people flying around the battlefield(with more than 20 tons) and using spots on maps and builds focused on that.

want opinions on how is this affecting the game and the balance.

P.D: Sorry for my english is not my languaje.

Jumpjets add a large degree of tactical flexibility for the mechs that have them. For the Heavy and Assault mechs that carry them, the tradeoff is often a significant amount of tonnage other chassis could devote to greater firepower, armor, ammo, etc.

Thus, like everything, it's a give and take. That said, used correctly, that added mobility, ability to access terrain and such is almost always worth a slight loss in raw firepower. Thing is very few people have any tactical sense or awareness to actually maximize that, so the tradeoff to the meta is pretty negligible.

There's only one change I would like to see for JJs: exponential instead of linear return on # of JJs

most straightforward example would be on the Jenner; I believe this mech has a max jump distance of 25m and 5 max JJs.

So instead of 1JJ=5m, 2JJ=10,...,5jj=25m. It would be 1JJ=1m, 2JJ=4m,..., 5JJ=25m.

The numbers would be a more messy for other mechs, but the point would be not to change the jumping mechanic and max jump dist while increasing penalties for running with reduced JJs.
