I don't think it would make much of a difference.

Better disable PPC ghost heat for Awesome so it can work the 3 PPC's!

Removal of ghost heat for PPCs wouldn't really make any practical difference because the PPC's base heat is so high you really couldn't alpha them that often. Rather, the Awesome needs improved heat dissipation characteristics. And removal of ghost heat for all energy and missile weapons.

It's problems aren't with it's weapon loadouts or heat buildup, it's with the fact that it's a barn door on legs.

Considering that the hitbox changes made XL engines less desirable on the Awesome.... this isn't exactly going to be the miracle solution.

Actually the changes improve the viability of XL engines. Aiming for side torsos is always a greater difficulty on a good torso twisting player. The fact that you always hit the CT meant you only have the CT armour to absorb damage with. Now that the STs are bigger, you are skillfully "roll with the punches" towards the least damaged side.

EDIT: Thereby increasing the amount of "armour" available and survivability.

Increasing the Engine Rating gives XL as an option for awesomes which is fantastic. XL on all chassis is always an option for the more skillful players who are willing to trade the risk for the reward of bigger weapons.

EDIT: If PPCs and ER PPCs get a small heat reduction along with granting Awesome XL engine, it will become the new Energy boat and we should start seeing it as a highly viable mech.

I would personally just cap it @ 350 anyhow...

300 STD->350XL has more or less the same tonnage and same HS option (XL takes up 6 more crits, meaning 2 less DHS, which you're traded for putting it the engine).

I'm totally favourable to increase the engine limit, but I'd leave 9M and PB to get the exclusive to go above 350.

Best engine ratings for 8-series is either 325 or 350, it would allow them to be faster than the other 60kph-capable mechs, which, taken out the Victor are Atlases, Stalkers and Highlanders that literally eat awesomes for breakfast.

Shoulder pauldron should then made part of the Arm hitbox, to give a proper resistance when employing XL engines and std engines and to ease the "I'm a barn easy to hit".. You'd always be easy to hit, but you'd be quite a bit sturdier.

Finally 3PPC (and also 3xLL) capability should be granted without any ghost heat.

The above, or simply REDO THAT BARN WITH LEGS FROM SCRATCH!!!

Guys, I know there is much more to bo done for the AWS. Thing is we have to start somewhere and bigger engine mean more speed to get under cover, fall back to your teamates and faster torso twist.

The AWS is indeed large as a barn, the only way to partially counter that WITHOUT redoing the model is speed.

Yes I know, the ghost heat should be removed for the awesome. Hell, imo, it should be removed completly since the heat nerf the PPCs received.

Point is, if you agree that the engine cap should be increased, simply bump this post. The battlemaster have its freaking cap at 400! The 385 is just to put it on par with the 9M without making the already useless PB more useless.

The awesome is one of those rare exceptions where you DONT want double heatsinks. A 3x ER PPC build is perfectly viable with a big XL and just about every other open slot dedicated to standards. Slow an dopey but viable

Or alternatively... You could not fire all three PPCs at the same time. I'm not against the idea of an engine increase though.

I couldn't have said it better.

Awesome is the "Barn with Legs" and alot of that barn is arms so the hitboxes should be weighted that way, extending above the side torsos, or redue the whole thing with a new 3-d mesh.

Most of the 'fix the Awesome posts' included an arm hitbox increase to make up for the massive width of the model because we all knew you couldn't just make the side torsos take up the slack from shrinking the CT.

The Awesome should be granted the Battletech 'Improved Cooling Jacket quirk' and this should extend the Heat Scale by one additional weapon before a penalty is counted. Makes sense since the Awesomes have no Ballistic Slot that they would have room for the Improved Cooling Jacket quirk. B)
Bigger Engines, sure, but I don't think that will fix everything.
