Well the only useful example I can think of was Sokomoto, the Draconis guy who could fly the Banshees and that Sloth 'mech. But other than that there really isn't much diversity lol.

Try telling that to the metaheads in mwo Yeah Im all for generalist setups, adaptable to any situation. Though specialised laser/ ballistic/ missile vomits, packs overall more focused punch I guess.

Anyway...

As for your response. There are strengths and weaknesses to every tactic and choice. A focused and specialized mech has great strengths in it's specialty, but will be weak outside that. A generalist and balanced build will always be useful, but will be weaker than a specialized mech within it's specialty.

As far as the quotes meaning, I think it refers to being too focused in tactics to the point of not being able to adapt and change. One can have a focused mech build, but remain flexible in tactics. If one becomes too specialized in tactics, than it will eventually lead to defeat.
