**** This Game

I have to wonder how you closed beta founders are still playing. I have only been playing since June, and I have put about 150$ into this game (overlord package and 50$ MC package), and I am ******* tired of the same 2 variants on "Team Deathmatch", where every game is "who has the most assaults/heavies"
I am ******* tired of having to restart my computer every 4 matches because the game crashes my state of the art video card.
And I am ******* tired of putting up with all the glitches and errors.
In short, **** THIS GAME. I might eventually come back to it, but I am off to figure out how to make my old copies of Mechwarrior 2 work on my computer, AND I just ordered Mechwarrior 3 off of Amazon.
I will possibly try this game out after a LONG time, maybe when the magical fairy unicorns ride by and bring something to this game other than "Meaningless Assaultwarrior Deathmatch Online". Or possibly when PGI is staffed by something other than incompetent freebirth scum.
In the meantime, I will be playing the REAL Mechwarrior games, the stuff that got me into Battletech in the first place. It will be nice to once again hear the cries of "KODIAK BASE! KODIAKKK!".

on top of that, the real thing that keeps us playing is the community. Join an active merc corp or something when you come back.

Isn't MW4 free for download?
As in, REALLY free, not "the FBI could kick down your door for doing this" "free".

What would you do with your "LEGAL COPY"? Got a spare floppy drive laying around?

It was. That is, until the Mektek dudes hosting it decided to make a new Heavy Gear... Then they removed it from their servers. I'm not sure where you'd get it now.

first and foremost... join a unit/guild/group... it is the community that keeps you coming back for more... at the very least regularly stay in one of the free community TS3 servers (Comstar NA or EU, and even the meh NGNG server)
2nd - if you feel that you are competent to rise above the brown sludge of the kiddie pool that is the 4-man/pug queue... regularly play 12-man... don't try 12s once a month and then call it a day.. i mean regularly play it and seek it out... it is a different level of gameplay... after the ppc/gauss nurfs, 12-man is better to play... i drop most of my 12s in a COM-TDK and i perform as well or better than a sevem thwee thwee charlee (just ask and i will show you video proof)... the level of organization is different and will re-ignite your love for the game...
3rd - don't drop in the same chassis and build for the 1500th time... play many chassis and vary your builds... burnout occurs when you "play" the meta over and over and over and over again... playing the meta makes your skills soft as the "meta" really equates into what is the easiest to use... you can't be a good pilot if your mech is as fast as a turret... you can't be good at gunnery if all you do is rely on alpha convergence center mass shots... many many many 3l1t3 un1ts have broken up because of pilot boredom.... many tournament teams don't even have 12 guys that show up regularly anymore to field their own 12s...
when you aren't playing the meta, your Elo isn't inflated... the funny thing about this game is that there are 2 versions of Elo hell (very low and very high Elo)... when you have a middle-ground Elo, the matchmaker actually gives you decent pugs on both sides so games are fun because every single team member is pulling their weight...
pugs listen to typed chat and you can coordinate matches with just a few button strokes... (again just ask if you need "evidence")...

First off, thank you all for your suggestions. I am still going to take a long break from this game, but I will look into joining an active group when I return to this game.
And yeah, I've never been on this section of the forums before, but looking through all the topics in here, what the hell is PGI smoking?
It seems like any sort of constructive criticism or legitimate complaints about this game get moved to a small sub-section of the forums which I never even knew existed.
**** you PGI, this makes me even less likely to want to come back.

Still, Heavy Gear was awesome. My copy of Heavy Gear 2 was corrupted, and I never got it replaced - but I loved the original. In fact I enjoyed it more than MW2, its contemporary competitor. Partly, this is a question of flavor, of course: Battletech is in essence a game of walking tanks, while Heavy Gears are mecha infantry. These differences play out in the way the giant stompy robots in each game franchise move, and in the balance of power. The toughest opponent on the Heavy Gear battlefield is a tank (which is far more realistic,) with the Gears providing mobile support more in line with a giant armored infantryman. Both games were a blast, of course, but I wish I could have finished Heavy Gear 2.
Hrm, I wonder...
