First, it's refreshing to see you rethink your original argument and take the time to lay out your thoughts more constructively. I'm sure we've all been guilty of posting when we're feeling a little heated, but almost always, cooler heads prevail.
I agree with parts of what you say. I don't want to see the game fail. I don't think anyone wants to see this game fail. Well, maybe the bitter angry troll people want to see it fail, but those are the folks that beat their animals for fun.
Regarding the private match system, the whole entire concept is a challenge. On one hand, the community totally needs it for unit training and 3rd party league play. On the other hand, the creation of private matches, no matter how simple it is to achieve(it's really not), it takes several members of an already small development team off of whatever their working on to both create and maintain the new system.
Even if it's only 25% of the time, for a small development team, that's a lot of resources and time. It also has the secondary negative effect of potentially splitting the community into people that only play private for training or league play, and those that only play public/CW matches. Finally, private matches cost in the form of dedicated servers. Servers cost in both money and maintenance cycles. Not to mention upkeep.
For all of those reasons, its necessary to establish a priority system to help encourage Public and CW matches for regular play as well as to justify the added cost of running dedicated servers for private play. It's less pay to play, or even pay for priority, than it is pay for privilege.
I hope that helps you see another side of the coin.
