Sooooo....

It's only tactics if it's something you want to do?

No, and I never even mentioned that being the case. Why are you putting words in my mouth? For all you know I could be poptarting in a Victor 24/7.

It's not tactics when only thing the game revolves around is finding high ground with cover and poptarting.

Also, conquest doesn't add anything to a tactical side of this game. It's a cat and mouse game for people who like lights and 9 out of 10 times ends up being fought like the Assault mode until one team has upper hand and proceeds to cap / neutralize the flags.

There's less tactics in this game than Farmville right now.

It does have a use - leveling up a mech or farming cbills. With damage and component destruction it's good for the money sink. When I'm farming cash I use a dual LB10X + LL or even SRM setup. Your win/loss will slide a bit and your KDR but your average cash/XP per match will climb - I've had games with 4 or 5 kills and a top of 16 component destruction bonuses. It's a stupid amount of money. Nice to see rounds with 260k or 280k from time to time again.

It doesn't win matches or kill people though. You hunt mediums - hunches, cents and shawks preferably. You need to stay with a couple of slow heavy hitters like a Highlander or Atlas. They'll peel some poor ******* in a Medium open, then you charge in and give chase. Just be in something fast. Splatter all over them and watch 'em come apart like boiled chicken. Just have someone with killing weapons close enough to run back to.

Useless as a functional 'win matches/kill mechs' weapon though.

I like it because it strips the armor off in the whole area, sometimes leaving their whole torso exposed to the laser-y elements!

I love the LBX-10. I use it on my Cicada with ecm support. +600 dmg is not rare and usually pull 400-500. It's all in how you use it. My advice is it should not be your primary weapon but a very strong secondary.

The current metagame favors high damage, pinpoint strikes and hiding behind cover as weapons cycle.

The LB-10X can't do pinpoint strikes which makes it decidely inferior to the AC10. Has PGI still not been able to give a reason to use this?

(I hope nobody uses the crit seeking argument).

1) It goes boom!
2) It is a shotgun, I lurve shotguns.
3) It is great in confined spaces. You can hit multiple mechs and scare the bejezus out of people.
4) Raining pellets from above looks way cool.
5) Did I mention it goes *boom*

It is not the best weapon, but it is extremely fun. Fun is the point of the game. I don't care if it is not the ultra-best weapon.

Stop being boring and using only the best!

My atlas dc with 2xlb10x is by far my most comfortable and succesful build out of my 25 mechs. I have done 1100 dmg, yesterday won a pug off my own bat with 8 kills and 796 damage, was last mech standing. As with all discusions in these forums I read a heap of theoretical opinion on how whatever weapon/mech should perform based on the stats. The point of the lb10x is it rarely misses, you dont even have to line up the shot, just a quick blast "from the hip", and at least something is going to hit.I like the ac20 as well but you have to concentrate and take extra split seconds to get the shot. And if you miss, wait forever for the recharge. What it really comes down to is what suits each players style, this makes for great variation amongst playing styles which is one of the few things this game still has going for it.

If you are only using ACs you are playing the game wrong. Both My (F)Atlas and My Victor(s) use all three of the basic food groups. and they are working fine.

I tend to skip the missiles on most builds (the head mount on the Shad's being the exception) due to fairly bad spread. But mixed load outs work, you just NEED that AC to be competitive which isn't great for all the energy boats floating around.

I personally think it works well as a self-defense weapon. I run with my group in an LRM lance (and yes, if you have someone spotting for you, you rack up damage and kills) I am the lance guard, so I need both short range defense and long range support. Nothing is more satisfying than a few lights coming around the corner thinking easy kill LRM boats...only to get an LB10-X spread to their face. They usually turn and run at that point. I have one-shoted several lights this way...usually in the back as they run away, (quicker reload time than an AC10) but even more satisfyingly, in the face as they are leg humping me trying to avoid my fire. (most lights head hit-boxes are conveniently located about arm high on an assault :)

If it were up to me to buff it I would increase the damage to 1.1 per shell and leave the spread as it is. I think it adds something neat to the game and it does actually have a higher range than the standard AC10 (540m vs 450m) but usually when you fire out to those ranges it spreads out so much that it's not as good as the standard AC10, so its worthwhile range is often lower, and forget even trying to fire beyond its effective range which can be done well enough with the AC10. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but if the pellet spread relegates it to actually being a shorter range weapon, it could maybe use a small damage boost to compensate.

That said though I've managed to get some impressive damage with it on my Trebuchet-7K, so in my experience it doesn't really need many improvements. The gun is already lighter and its crit seeking property is actually pretty nice since it does significant damage to armor (unlike machine guns) and if you pair it up with some other decent damage weapons it shreds mechs apart. I still remember a match in frozen colony where I got legged near the Epsilon cap point with some (battle damaged) enemy mechs closing in yet I managed to take 3 of them down before dying, and I'm pretty sure it was largely due to the LB-10X I had equipped.
