well I think all in all that I just hate the map change on river city. Honestly alpine was too big so any spawn change is helpful there but river city is too small. Unfortunately that's all that seems to drop is river city and river city night. The other maps aren't bad.

Just double the amount of work they are doing? Sure, why not?

I heard a standard 8 hour workday can be easily extended to 16 hours for no extra cost!



Maybe if they weren't taking a vacation week nearly every six weeks, they wouldn't require any overtime work?

I actually like the new River City map - and most of the other map changes as well and for the same reason. Rarely do we see the rush for an early cap. Rarely (if ever) does a match come down to a coin flip regarding which direction the mob should go - getting it wrong meaning an automatic cap race. Regroup if you want or attack as a lance - as the situation warrants.

I would bet good C-Bills that many of those expressing knee-jerk reactions of disgust will come to like the new spawn points. Like I said, I didn't care for them at first, either, but it quickly became apparent how it changed the game for the better.

I understand that in countries like the USA, paid vacations are virtually non-existent for many people. Fortunately, citizens of other countries do not have to suffer the same fate.

Well, he probably does not know how game development works in the USA. Fortunately, in other more civilized countries, developers do not have to work under slave-like conditions. :D

I have no idea how that became a discussion on game development. I was commenting on how the poster seemed to think that you can double the amount of maps generated per month without increasing the cost. That seemed a bit strange to me, and I assumed he meant he could easily double the number of hours the people were working for no additional cost.

Because the posters here are better game developers than the game developer.

That's why they spend all their time here whining.

Those extra hours of testing new alpha/beta maps should have been from us "beta testers"

I dont know about the earliest maps but I dont remember beta testing alpine, tourmaline, canyon, terra or crimson. The all seemed quit solid when the were released even tho there is plenty of the player base willing to play new maps early and give real feedback.

Now that I think of it I dont remember any real experimental testing going on, There should have been plenty of "here is a new weapon/mechhitboxes/map/module/gamemechanic test it for us and provide feedback on our test server please"

I have to say thatI am happy that they are providing a test server and plenty of questions and topics to answer for feedback on a test server before it goes mainstream.

Seriously? It does not take 2 months to make a map. Previous posts have all pointed out that most new games have map development programs which is totally true. I want to see an admin admit that with todays technology it takes 60 days to develop a map? You make it sound like this is truly a FREE game. Which is also B.S. How much money do you spend a month on this game?

Nothing. My last purchase was the saber package. Which was a completely optional purchase, by the way.

How long does it take to create 1 building asset along with the UV maps, diffuse/normal/spec maps, collision meshes, optimization, etc, etc? How many buildings are in River City? How long do you spend testing each asset?

So you do not own ANY hero mech's? Besides the ones that were in your Saber Package? You have never bought any special decorations....designs....colors?

You are so adamant that it takes 2 months to develop a map. Where is this post from a Dev located at. And 500k is laughable.

I have an Ilya and an X-5. I have christmas lights (from last year); no colors, patterns or decorations (other than the free ones).

You asked about my monthly costs though. My monthly costs are $0.00, rounding up. I have some occasional one time costs that are entirely optional, but the key word is optional. It's free to play, in case you haven't heard!

Dragons Fire. I will read this tomorrow when I get off work. It looks lengthy and I am very interested. I still do not see in a FREE game as previously pointed out if a map cost half a million dollars to produce how it can be made.

Yes I have heard this game is free to play. Just the same as all online games that started switching to this Model several years ago. One of the first I remember was DDO. However, there were a few before that.

I understand it is entirely possible to play Free to play. And I am even sure there are some college kids with no spare cash who only utilize that option. However, most adults who hold a job and have a steady income will buy items, mechs, packages.

When I say monthly cost I mean an average on what you spend a month to play the game. My income is high. I work very long hours and I am older. I have vasts amounts of experience playing games like this and to be honest I would prefer to pay for items to enjoy myself now instead of spending 40 hours straight camping jboots in everquest "an example".

Every adult that I play this game with online spends at-least 30 a month and most upwards of 60 a month.

Free to play is just good economics. Anything ever offered for free in life is NOT FREE.

Well, it's my number 3 game ever in terms of hours played. My guess is that on a dollars per hour basis, it's the cheapest game I've ever played.

Don't know if I can say that Heffay, but I figure everything I put into the game prior to Sept 17 was to support development. So in the last 3 months I have spent like $20 maybe... So that is a pretty cheap game :)

The Time and price is reasonable considering its full customized. This limits the production rate. PGI is not interested in making very simple maps. this I think is an issue. since it slows down production. I would personally like to see a flat grassy plane with some simple hills or a massive forested area with some simple hills.

Not every map should be perfect. some maps should grant one team and advantage. maps dont have to be perfectly balanced. Make one full customized and one simple version from that art set. let the randomize nature of maps determine who gets what ever perceived advantage.

Pound for pound steam sale games pulled ahead by a wide margin for me, mostly in the form of Fallout 3:New vegas (349hrs for $7 base game and like $4 expansion, only have Old World Blues right now though) but Skyrim is rapidly catching up (149hrs at about the same price, little over $7 no expansions though....waiting for another 75% off sale on them).

MWO is at roughly 145hrs (rounded to the nearest hour on Maps stats for that number) while its cost me roughly $20 (got scammed into a DRG-1N sale early on, rest is mech pays, paint and a small amount of premium time prior to the cbill nerf.)

The notable difference is of course that MWO is a online only game, fifteen years down the road ill probably be downloading all kinds of weird files to get my Windows 666 to run skyrim but only time will tell if MWO is a cornerstone in the mechwarrior franchise like Mechwarrior 2 or is treated more like Mechassault.
