Well, I just made the last minute plunge into the Saber package. I figured that $30 is well worth the time it would've taken to purchase the standard variants of both the Griffin and the Wolverine with C-bills and then grind them out. In addition to that, they come with 'mech bays, and essentially two hero 'mechs with a loyalty bonus. I'm looking forward to getting these classics in my hangar in two weeks, ones I enjoyed playing on TT.

I'm also thinking that since I've read many posts about Project Phoenix owners being on the fence over the Saber pack, the Phoenix variants of the Griffin and Wolverine might not be as common of a sight in-game, so someone has to pilot them and make it known that they're around :)

I know, I could've spent my $30 on the MC sale and got any hero 'mech I wanted, but 'mech bays were a big deal breaker for me. I was really thinking about saving up for a Clan 'mech pack, but I find it highly unlikely one will come out soon, since they're only planning on revealing one new Clan 'mech (per a recent Command Chair post). In a NGNG review, I think the boss said that there won't be any Clan 'mechs until MASC is figured out and implemented.

Anyone else making the last-minute choice to get the Saber pack?

Only thing to really bother me over the Griffin-1N is putting the entire loadout on a single side in a game in which aiming is a possible thing. It looks like it has enough slots though for some shenanigans though. just have to watch that side.

Leaves the entire other side to be used as a shield.

Fix the matchmaker and the grind and maybe implement solo q and pgi will see my money again.

I have found med mechs fun to run and would have picked them up myself but just cant until my experience gets better.
Enjoy them and have fun.

Exactly. I wonder if that would otherwise make it an XL friendly mech too though, lose the good side torso and you're done anyway :D

All depends on the hitboxes. It'd be nice to have another zombie like the cent though. WOW the cent bomb is a fun beast to run, just a shame i havent run it in a few months with srms on the fritz.

I'm looking forward to the saber mechs though, they could be really fun, and more medium mechs is never a bad thing.

They alreadly have some concept art for the Phoenix Wolverine and Griffin, so expect to see them next week along with the Thunder variants, a Skirmish game mode, and an HPG map. This is going to be a treat.

People said that about the Heavy Metal.....no issue there.

Stacking all weaps to one side, can be an issue, IF you run a standard eng. However with mechs that do that stacking, you usually want to run an XL eng, since once you "lose" that side, your useless and might as well be dead anyway.

These "concerns" people have, are stupid and idiotic, they need to stop being quoted as a "drawback" to a mech.

Well I could see losing all your weapons at once a drawback. If you're using an XL then that's going to happen anyway, it's just a slight issue if not (and yeah, why would you do that?!). Ultimately I don't think these are "concerns" about the mechs so much as some of the people using them. I hear some sort of complaint about every single mech when they come out and then many of them play just fine.

No you guys have it all backwards! You gotta run a standard and use your unarmed side as an ablative shield. That's the state now with a lot of snipers in comp drops. With SRMs on the backburner, brawling is sidelined, so all those formerly XL engined snipers now run standard engines and soak the damage that brawlers would usually be taking. Mechs like the Highlander and Dragon Slayer are excellent in this meta because their loadouts (autocannon+ppc) are all on one side.
