How about this instead:
make jump jets all or nothing devices. hitting jump should expend one jump jet (putting it into a 10 second cool down) and propel your 'mech up 15 and forward 30 meters in a 0.25 second arc (90 KPH - if your 'mech was running faster you can keep that speed). chain firing should be allowed, by holding down the <jump> key/button.
keep the screen shake for the duration of the flight, give it a big one on landing. keep rotation 'mechanics as they are now.

How long does a turn last in TT? 10 seconds?
Make jumpjets start regaining fuel after a couple seconds instead of immediately after landing. Lengthens gaps between jumps so the poptarter can either sit there and wait or do something else, and the target has more time to act/react.
