So the latest info dump has stuff about Role Modules, they fit in a different module slot from general modules and are limited to certain mechs.
The two examples are Scout and Brawler. Their purpose is to pay you monies and xp for performing the role.
Obviously the Locust would get the Scout and obviously most of the Hunchbacks (silly LRM variant) would get the Brawler.
But other light mechs aren't as narrowly focused on recon as is the Locust and there are many more jobs to do on the field then Brawling.
So lets talk about Roles. What Roles can there be?
Give me a good idea and I will add it to the poll.

I don't like Role Modules in this sense.
I do like the idea of Role Pilot Skills. This game is supposed to have Major Role Warfare. So far. we've mostly just got three levels of play.
Scout V. Scout -> Harassing
The Brawl
Fire Support Shooting. (Includes LRMs)
Any of the battles you can witness sort of follow these three ideals. There's very little Information Warfare aside from "where are they? where are they moving?" Even ECM has been downplayed. And Roles have become dried out as well.
But I'm rambling.

Scout - Provide intel to the rest of the team
Striker - Highly mobile short range fighters that use hit and run tactics.
Skirmisher - Highly mobile mid to short range fighters; a brawler/striker hybrid
Brawler - Heavily armored short range fighters
Sniper - Long range direct fire support
Support - Mid to Long range direct fire and missile support; usually more mobile than snipers
Missile Boat - Long range missile support
Assault - Slow moving, but heavily armed and armored with a full compliment of long to short range weapons

Artillery Spotter / FOO (Forward Observation Officer) or NGFO (Naval Gunfire Officer) or FAC (Forward Air Controller) all of these roles exist in the British Army. In Mech we have Artillery Strike and Air Strike, we also have optimization modules for these tasks which improve accuracy. To a point I agree with Enzane (above) in that Role Pilot Skills may be a better way to go i.e. continue down the accuracy / speed improvements route. However if by fitting a Role Module you could carry multiple Arty / Air Strikes or even have control over distribution of fire or ammo types/ settings it would create a specific to role unit.

The majority of those are very similar to brawler, there is literally no difference between Assault, brawler, skirmisher and striker. just weight class really but all serve the same purpose...damage

Hmmmm....
Support, Missile Boat, and Assault all serve the same purpose as the others... Damage.
It's also not broken into weight class but instead build. Dragon is a heavy but makes a good Skirmisher, could also hang back and play a Sniper or Support role.

I don't know, missle boats are great for getting people to cower behind cover. Way better at that then actually getting kills.
