I hope to be a 'phract owner soon, and it looks like I'll be snagging the 3D (duh), 4X (dakka) and either the 1X or 2X (undecided). I can figure out a 3D build (saving that for last), but what do you run on your other 'Phrats?

Also, any good SHS 'phrat builds?

For the 4X I found using an XL255 and four AC5's to be quite effective.

I also had some success with a STD255, 2x AC10, 2x Mlas and an SRM4. But this one is pretty much useless in my hands unless I have an Assault to buddy with.


I'd suggest the four AC5 build, primarily because dakka. This is roughly what I went with:

Quad AC5 Cataphract 4X

Pretty sure I have more ammo in mine, but I'm not in game to check.

I think the only 'Phract that can get away with using SHS would be running a dual Gauss build, but you'd probably be better off using a Catapult or Jager to do that instead.

Personally, I love the 1X the most out of the 'Phracts, and I have it set up as a brawler:

Basically this. I took off an DHS and a few points of armor from legs to install an AMS.

But, you know what you've been missing out? Ilya.

Also, avoid 2X like a plague.

Id actaully take a 3d instead, it has jump jets.

Oh yeah, that's definitely viable as well. I just really like to have that 5th Medium Laser, is all. It seems to make all the difference for me.

For OP's convenience, here's the CTF-3D Brawler. Exact same loadout as the 1X brawler, just with 2 JJs and 1 less MLas and DHS.

Dunno what's going on with Smurfy for ya, Mason. It's working fine on my end. No idea what could be causing you trouble.

Yeah i think the trade off for jump jets is worth the med laser myself, i like the extra mobility.

I dont know whats up, i normally can post smurfy...

2x is one of the best chassis available. A torso ballistic, 2 high beam points, an arm beam point for lateral cover, and the 2 tightest srm grouping launch points in the game in the other arm. Very decent speed with an XL 320 or 340.

the 2x is the least used chassis and rightly so. It's the only phract I'm missing, I thought about buying it to complete my 'phract collection but what with which build?

Cataphract 4X: 4xAC5 (240 rounds) + 2xML, or 2xGauss (80 slugs) + 2x ML, or 2xAC10 + 2xML (standard engine)
Cataphract 3D: whatever, man, this thing just kills; 2xPPC + AC5 + 2xLL at the moment

2X is underrated, 627. But some results of course are dependent on pilot style. This build works really well for me:

CTF-2X: 320XL, Endo, 14 DHS, 400 armor
AMS (1000)
1 LLAS
2 MLAS
1 AC/10 (30)
2 SRM6 (200) {Artemis unnecessary with tight salvo produced from the 4 tubes, even out to range. this will probably change with game updates and the advent of regular launchers on the chassis, which will then require Artemis and the loss of 2 DHS or a lesser engine)

This is a fun build to play and how I usually run my 1x.

Everyone is down on the 2x, but I think it's a fun mech too. I can't check specifics right now, but I'm running it something like this CTF-2X: XL300, 3 x LL, 1x AC/10, 2x SSRM, and not quite full armor. Spray the field with the LLs and only use the AC when I know I have a clean shot, save the SSRMs for harassing lights who get too close.

Before they changed the Gauss, the 2x was myself and a friends favorite Cataphrat (Not counting Murmets).
Note my smurfy build is out of date, it was before we stripped Case off.

Why that? 2X makes a great brawler 1X is more like a laser boat. You can run a canonical 2X like this:

I had fun in a 2X Mini-Atlas (AC20, 2xSRM4, 2 MLs), so the 2X isn't a total loss.

Enjoying my new Ilya courtesy of the sale, and am saving up for the 3D, which will make the 'Phrat the first set of mechs' I've owned 4 of.

what build did you settle with for your ilya? bought 1 myself but cant decide what way to go

3xUAC5, 3 ML, XL280, 8 tons of ammo, AMS. Not sure if I added any heatsinks. The AC5 version isn't bad either, uses less ammo, but doesn't shred things as fast (though you could probably take the tonnage saved and mount an ML instead). It is better on heat on hot maps though.
