but i just accidentally proved they are over power.
how did i do that? like this watch.
FACT: there are no assault mechs in mwo with any of the following:
a ballistic on each arm
OR
a ballistic on each torso
OR
a balistic on one arm and one torso,
why are there no assault mmechs like this? its simple dawg/bro
because if there was than either two AC 20 plus energy weapons OR 2 AC 10 plus PPC/LL.
BRO imagine an ATLASAS wot has an AC 20 on EACH arm (like a 60 ton jager)
then has an extra 40 tons of surat? or even 3 AC 20 and an srm 6?!?!
how come there is no limit to the missiles or lasers assaults can mount but there is a very specific ballistix limit?
ALL my vaforite mechs are ballistic and i wanted a ballistic assault for so long dawg. but all we get is highlanders and victors with 3 unusable ballistics on one spot!!!!!!bro
PS CATAPHRACT AND STUFF AND VICTOR AND HIGHLANDER ARE

Hard to argue with that kind of logic.

Hmm... You're not pointing out anything that anyone who has thought about the situation for a little bit hasn't come to. Wrong conclusion tho.
The whole idea behind the hardpoint system is to control mechs. Are AC's OP? In some respects they most certainly are. Are they "just plain OP"? Well, you've hit the nail on the head. The answer is "no" and the reason is hardpoints.
The Hardpoint system sits over the top of all weapons to control balance beyond weapon stats.
eg:
You can have a ballistic slot in the left torso. Groovy. You can have an AC 20 provided you don;t take an XL engine so you have to choose. You have an Energy slot instead? There is NO energy weapon that's going to stop you from taking an XL engine if you want one. You can have an XL engine and still put 3 PPCs in a side torso.
Critical slots + hardpoints are a controlling factor above and beyond weapon stats.
I really don't understand why people have such a hard time understanding this one. Yes, ACs are OP in some respects. They can afford to be on a stat by stat comparison because hardpoints provide a great deal of control on the upper limits achievable.
Yes, hardpoints matter and that's the kind of the whole idea.
Disclaimer: This is "in theory" and I have my opinions on this subject with regards to balance. This post is ONLY to show why the OP isn't really bringing us an earth-shattering revelation in a method that avoids silly pictures.
