Hello, everyone.

With the relative rarity I've been noticing of Founders' 'mechs, something came to mind I'd forgotten about for a while.

Now we know Founders' mechs have custom camo schemes - one of the points was to get them because camo specs came in at a much later point in the game's development (and is still not completed).

There is another, very important visual aspect to these 'mechs, however that should not be ignored.

The Catapult has the pointed nose, the Atlas has a different head design altogether and the Hunchback has an elongated head, a sort of "neck" that goes into the back torso that looks much better than the thing on the normal Hunchies etc. They have different cockpit glass colors as well. I distinctly remember camo colors affecting cockpit colors as well. In fact...

Yup. They changed it so all cockpits are an (admittedly great) orange color. More recently, with the Phoenix mechs, we yet again have custom geometry and unique colors and camo specs.

What I remembered was that somewhere, in the thousands of information threads they mentioned they want to put in custom geometry, same as camo specs! That being heads, arms and legs. Those things are present in both Founders' and Phoenix mechs. So maybe we will have custom cockpit colors, shapes and with details like the Atlas' classic radar dish thing and the odd right eye.

So - I wonder - have they done any progress on this? Have you guys seen anything new, do any of you remember seeing this written somewhere as well at all?

They did say that way back when.

I'm hoping they have scrapped such ideas though. Parts interchangeability isn't a MechWarrior/BattleTech thing -- it belongs in Front Mission and Armored Core and other such games.

I don't ever want to see a Centurion with Atlas arms, or an Atlas with Cataphract legs.

probably not but there are more important things for them to focus on atm, additional inner sphere mechs, introducing clan mechs. psyhical customization will probably only happen once they are happy with the number of mechs in game i would love to buy new heads for my non founders atlas though

As much as I want the "garage kits" they used to talk about, I think getting a full set of paint jobs on new designs has shot the idea down …

You say that with a game that has a mechlab. Swapping limbs like that was never mentioned though. It was basically what Planetside 2 has had since it's Beta, style kit parts. More like giving a Commando a double monocle (goggles!) than giving it Atlas legs.

They just need a good system to implement that idea AND add all the paint schemes per design etc.

Minor visual changes like a Locust's cockpit or the Battlemaster's arms is obviously what I meant.

I've been waiting for this too. Unfortunately, while it's definitely possible, they're probably not doing it in the near future (i.e. ever) because it's too much work. I don't know if it would be a problem due to hitboxes too, but looking at the tiny differences between stock mechs and Phoenix variants, it seems that any tiny change is a huge amount of work for them. Also notice how few hero mechs have custom geometry.

It's a damned shame. I don't think we will see this for several years. As I've said many times, I would pay so much money for a K2 with pointed nose, it's not even funny.

We will get it eventually. I'm sure it will be a mech XP sink.

Eventually could be years from now though...

If it happens it will be MC.

I don't think it would be that much work. you could easily separate existing elements to be modular, or add all new...bars n things. It's basically how the dynamic weapons already work. Hitbox-wise I suppose it depends of what the item actually is, but I did check some of the bolt on geometry for the ESF's in Planetside 2 and they lack collision meshes and I've never seen a complaint about it. Probably hard to tell if you hit them and missed though. No reason they couldn't do something similar and just keep the silhouette effect negotiable.

They said they wanted to do it as a mech XP sink, but I'm sure they will make the best stuff MC only, or at least the most outlandish things.

Yeah - only natural that they make any sort of visual customization purchasable with MC.
From what I understand a system like that shouldn't be much different than what we already have for the weapons visualization, as Karyudo has already mentioned.

That wouldn't be the case. It'd be more like custom built Atlas skulls, and things like different 'helmet' shapes to the Victor, or random but useless monkey bars to let enemy infantry hang from as they try to get into your cockpit. A more prime example might be ribbed and non-ribbed Battlemaster shoulder blades. It wouldn't be swapping body parts of other mechs onto yours.

I've seen it. We're not seeing this until after the final phase of community warfare gets implemented. That's before they even begin to look at the idea again on paper to evaluate whether or not to do it. Even then it'll be an only option. But something I'd be willing to throw a little money at.

Edit: Inserted picture credit.

I have no idea why they haven't done that already I mean everything they add to store that doesn't affect gameplay is good thing and if they have more vanity items to offer then they don't need to rely on mechbay sales and hero mechs, but no they have to be stupid about it and focus all their attention to hero mechs.

They haven't done it yet because they already have a ton of stuff to do, and it's low on the priority list. It's that simple.

This needs to be the first one on the list. A cataphract with both Marauder arms.
