Not only is ghost heat itself a terrible game mechanic but the way it was implemented doesnt make any sense either.

Can run four AC/5s without ANY ghost heat... and each AC/5 is equal to one-and-a-half large lasers in terms of dps.

Can only run two large lasers without ghost heat.

Ghost heat needs to be completely removed and weapons need to be balanced in more intuitive ways that dont require highschool level math and data tables to explain to players.

1AC5 = 2 1/2 LL for damage.

A LL cycles every 3.25 seconds for 9 damage = 2.75 DPS , an AC/5 cycles every 1.5 seconds for 5 damage = 3.33 DPS. If you then look at the heat the LL generated and the slow heat dissipation, now the AC/5 becomes incredibly more effective than a LL that has a high base heat, spreads the damage all over and it suffers from shot heat.

Because Endo is a given on every mech and XLs are viable on most mechs the higher weight of ACs becomes a near non-issue.

Well it should certainly be more than two because of the one second burn duration. So minimum of 3 Large Lasers with no penalty.

I just compared straight DPS. But yeah youre right the AC/5s are way better at long-term sustained fire.

The point is if AC/5s dont have ghost heat, why does any weapon have ghost heat?

So by that logic PPCs should go to 4 because of the Warhawk and the Hellstar. AC/2s should be what 8 because of the Kraken? AC/20s at 2 because of the King Crab and Hunchback IIC.

sorry but no.. I don't like ghost heat either as a mechanic but its what we got and the limits make some sense. 4x ER LL battlemasters and Stalkers show us why GH is set under 4. maybe 3 is ok but deff not 4

Sorry but... why? Those mechs have been written about for a couple decades, Ghost heat is a dumb as a rock concept & the DEVs should feel sorry for using it as a "Fix".
