Really Noob Question

So first off, the trial mechs you cannot alter in the mech lab, hence the name trial.
Second, for your first 25 games, you will earn a significant increase, which should help you purchase your first battlemech that you can alter in the mechlab! Choose carefully, however. I would stray away from light and assaults as they require a bit more know-how to pilot properly.
Third, purchasing a Hero mech is a great way to get a massive jump-start in this game, as the cadet bonus ( the income for the first 25 games played) will be multiplied by their 30%. Same goes with premium time. That may sound like a costly investment, but its worth it if you're a die hard Battletech MechWarriror fan. It is not however necessary in any way.

You CAN buy a 'mech right now but you lack the cbills to do it. However you are effectively you are gaining a HUGE cbill bonus per match, win or lose, for the next 25 rounds. So you should be able to afford a 'mech very soon!
I recommend you check out my 'mech guide before making your first purchase, and determining what you want to save up money for. In the meantime, you are in pretty handicapped trial 'mechs, so try to make the most of it until you have the funds!

Thanks for your reply. So you're saying that I cannot buy any mechs till after 25 battles? I don't want to buy ANY mech for real money. I just want to buy a credit mech, but I don't see any. Every mech it is showing me costs either MC or credits and MC.

Hi MM
No thats not what the guys are saying they mean that you will have gotten your maximum amount of boosted cash by then so you will have the money to buy your starting Mech(s) and some cash left over to customise them.
As you save cash you will see certain ones start to have the MC AND the CBill option show up as you earn in game cash that equals there purchase price.
Don't be tempted to buy too quickly, play at least 15-20 of your Cadet games before even considering your first in game cash purchase. Try each of the trial mechs by all means but a Medium or a Heavy are (usually) more newbie friendly.

Sorry I changed my question. I appreciate your help. I'm just trying to figure out where the mechs that DON'T have ANY MC cost are.
Every mech in my UI in the Mechlab has an MC cost to it. Some cost only MC and some cost MC AND Credits. I see zero mechs that cost only credits. What am I doing wrong?

Click on the Mechlab tab at the top. Then look on the bottom left of the interface marked Mech inventory. You should see a line stating "Owned Mechs" and another just by it stating "Trial Mechs" Click on that and you should see 4 mechs in your Mechlab tab.
Try the BJ-1© first I advise it has a bit of everything save long range power.
Also for love love of Kerensky do the movement tutorial It aint much buts sits something

Edit : Oh wait in Mech lab it defaults to the Heroes that are always MC only. Look top right, Mech symbol with a Star is highlighted. Click on one of the 4 tabs to the right of that that shows the mechs available for all kinds of purchase power.

Ah so the only mechs in the game that are really free to play are the four trial mechs and EVERY OTHER MECH in the game costs real money?

No.
The vast majority of 'mechs in the game cost c-bills, in-game. Only heroes and champions REQUIRE real money, and the free 'mechs are 100% as good as them across the board.
You just need to play until you have enough cbills (which you are earning quickly) and then you can purchase one for in-game money.
The trial 'mechs are just what they give you to use until you can afford to purchase your own 'mech. Yes it's a silly system, they should give you a 'mech out of the gate, but it doesn't last too long.

The costs of mechs, are -- either/or MC/C-bills, except Champion's and Hero's, not both MC and C-bills. The interface is not very New Player friendly, so it's difficult to figure out, without asking.

Every Mech can be bought with MC.
No Mech requires both MC AND Credits.
If you see both, it is an either/or cost.

To reiterate the advice you were already given:
For your first 25 matches you get a bonus per match caled a "Cadet Bonus" (this is listed on your match earnings page at the end of each match)
To maximize this free bonus, you should combine it with the +1 free day of Premium Time every player can collect.
- Visit the download page
- Click the download button (doesn't matter if you have already downloaded it previously)
- Examine the bottom of the page for several new images (if you use script blockers you may need to turn them off for a minute or you may need to update java)
- The one on the left will grant one day of premium time to your account
- Login to the game and hit the Activate button down on the bottom of the mechlab
- Play a bunch of games over the next 24 hours to get bonus

Q: "Why does it look like mechs can only be bought with real money?"
A: "When you first select Buy Mech, they list the 'premium' mechs which are regular mechs with experience bonuses or hero mechs with cbill bonuses and unique looks and hardpoints available for also known as 'Real Money'.
On the right hand are 5 mech icons. The star means premium. L is light, M is medium, H is heavy, and A is assault. The price is the in-game price.
