No, no... you're horribly, horribly confused.

GDC Vault - F2P the Wrong Way: Age of Empires Online

It's a somewhat long presentation - but there are some key highlights in there:

Business models do NOT equal Production Models. New player bases require an expansion of deeper features rather than a release of additional content that does little to enrich the gaming experience.

(...)

It's a business providing a service. Because of Intellectual Property Rights, Copy Rights, Trade Marks, etc - they currently hold a monopoly on this particular service that we really would like to see done justice.

Excelent post.

The thing I was looking forward to most in the game at closed beta:

Allying with FRR on the Clan front and being there from day one of the invasion, fighting to change history and hold those worlds in our subpar, but perhaps more numerous or heavier, 'mechs.

What I'm going to get:

We get to go from an all-IS MW:O to an all-Clan MW:O before it drops dead.

Disappointment is an understatement.

Even for the Masakari collection at $240, which includes 24 'Mechs with a MechBay for each 'Mech, excluding all of the other bonus content puts each 'Mech at $10 each. But then if you add in Premium Time and all the extras, the 'Mech costs drop even lower. It's actually pretty reasonable, if you ask me, but the overall cost is very steep. I'd much rather be able to pick with chassis I want and buy only those.

It can be "reasonable", but it's still $240, which is a considerable amount of money, spent on a virtual item of so-so quality. There are much better deals at both 'useless, but pretty junk' and 'game' category.

Spending the money in hopes of supporting the development is all fine and dandy, but going by the last example of the Phoenix packages, the money is spent on the development of assets for another such support found, which is not okay. One could assume they want this money to keep developing and would use the window created by the 8 months of no additional work needed regarding the mech stable for something great and useful, but it is a gambit, as they already blew the 6 months we provided before mostly on what seems to be the Operation Revival pack itself (as no advances on other fronts were made).

One doesn't have to crucify them, nor protect them. But they should really show results and actual progress outside of providing base for yet another "cash grab," which would in turn show the money was actually used for something good for the game.

The thread was hit by some excessive moderation, so it's not exactly an accurate measurement of the real scope for this backlash.

I miss the old red rectangles after deleted posts. Made the whole deal less enclosed and secretary.

New mechs are fine.

We like new mechs.

But you know what we really wanted for Christmas.

CW, UI 2.0, New maps and new game modes, Solaris, "C O N T E N T."

And on the price issue: Compared to Founders, this is actually not a bad price for what you get; just... really big price tag. I'd rather a $120 "pick four mechs" package to not lock the Masakari or whatever the biggest / most expensive is behind the $240 price wall. But then I'm a gorram hippie.

The gold mech seems... eugh... blatant.

Still... just... announcing this, with the ongoing lack of content... oO

Nice to see that because of PGI's ineptness at getting anything regarding Community Warfare completed the Clan Invasion, one of the most defining events in BattleTech history probably, is reduced to little more than an overpriced Black Friday sale.

Sorry, there's no galaxy spanning event for the Clan Invasion, there's no month long in-game PR campaign to get everyone hyped for the arrival, the first planets to fall to the Clans won't actually happen.

Because PGI couldn't finish a user interface.

We all expected something awesome, with AI or GM controlled Clan mechs and maybe some defense missions and some high-stakes sounding InnerSphere News announcements and pictures if not video but literally none of that is going to happen and that's tragic :(

Nah I'm somewhere down around number 25 with just 22 posts in the thread, just poking my head in from time to time to see that the threadnaut is still about nothing. And like with the other Threadnauts, it's just a handful of people stomping their feet in classic Veruca Salt fashion about, well... anything that PGI does.

I do find it hilarious the most expensive 'mech in the whole pack is neutered dramatically by the world's dumbest gameplay system, Ghost Heat.

One of the modules included with the Masakari pack is the "Advanced Dissipation Systems", which negates the effect of ghost heat.

Here's what's going to happen:

PGI is going to hide for the next month, to wait for everyone's angst to go away, then continue on as they have been. This is the same pattern they have done for every offensive decision they have made so far.

They think the player-base, especially the forum-going player-base, are ephemeral children with ADHD. They, and not unreasonably, expect everyone who is complaining here to forget about this over the next month, and move on to acceptance of the parts they haven't. It's what's happened before, on many contentious topics.

The only way their behavior will ever change is if the players, ALL of the players, start standing up for themselves and the game they want. Stop compromising with evil, and hold to what should be and what is right.

All that is necessary for evil to win, is for good men to do nothing.

Show me somewhere, anywhere where I've defended this package beyond mocking the absolute epic nerdrage associated with it. Personally, I don't care one way or another... but you all, the nerdrage is DELICIOUS.

I know that facts elude you when it's so much easier to resort to opinion and hyperbole Victor, just like when you make your horribly biased polls... anyone who even remotely disagrees with you is either a troll or a White Knight, but as per usual Corky, it's just your opinion and not TRULY facts ;)

I think the universe they are referring to is our wallets. But with these prices we have a "de-evolving universe". ;)

I've spent money, have two hero mechs, and own around 30 mechs elited.(and the mech bays to hold them)
I play with my clan/guild and have practice nights two times a week. We drop in 4 and 12 mans, if numbers are present.

I've vocalized my desire that there be more to the game then just the matches (something greater) and that has always been advertised as CW.
I am not a "collector" of mechs although I understand that some folks are.
I only play regularly maybe a third of my mechs (meta, drop decks for our clan, grinding cbills).

I've been playing since just a bit after the founder packs were not available.
I held off on phoenix when it was announced, because I was clear on 2 major points:
1. CW had to be delivered even in some elementary forms
2. The package deal got me more collectible mechs that I likely wouldnt use (and a couple I would)

CW wasn't introduced, so I didn't buy Project Phoenix.
I have continued to not spend any money, not even for spare MC for more mech bays at thanksgiving because I am holding to my word.
This sentiment is not just my own. Scan the forums for folks posts, now and in the past and you'll see it.

My energy to play the same thing with no purpose wanes. The emotional ties my clan has on me grow weak. I fear I will not make it before PGI can actually hit a deadline.

I love Battletech. I love working with a team and stompy stompying you folks. I have the disposable income.
I'm dangerously low on patience and good will.

I will not be purchasing the clan mech package. I will not be spending money on MC. I _may_ lose the will to play.

CW (and a good CW) is what I require. May it be in time.

$4000.... you can... do all of the below

--buy into star citizen if you haven't yet.
--buy into elite dangerous, their dog fighting alpha is out i believe!
--buy ps4
--go to cinemas
--have a nice dinner in nice restaurant
--go relax in a hotel for a night
--get a massage (not the happy ending kind)
--buy some snacks and beer

you would still have change to spare.

heck you could even just save money to upgrade for when star citizen comes out.
