wow, and I thought the gold founders pack was a bit steep. Sure, this includes a lot more mechs but still. After buying overlord I can't seem myself spending that kind of money on a game where I play a few maps and then don't play for a week which is a shame given that I have 90 days of premium time just sitting there now. I've learn my lesson now

And you know what's funny? Three of my favorite universes.

Firefly killed by Fox.
Tiberian killed by EA with cancer called c&c4.
Battletech is finally killed by PGI/IGP.

Thanks, Obama!

Battletech is much larger than MWO, and much older than many people realise. It's not anywhere near "killed" even if the MWO servers shut down today.

Looking forward to the horribly misspelled stream of consciousness post Russ Bullock and team will hammer out on Monday trying to explain all of this.

At first, let me assure you, this was something I pushed back against. We're over a year late on many core features, but were having trouble identifying our customer needs. So I asked my nephew (turning 13 this Christmas) what his favorite new feature would be. And he was very clear: "Pure gold robot from beyond the stars."

At first I was taken aback, because we weren't planning to introduce the clans until next Summer -- at the soonest -- and asked him how much it should cost. "Five hundred dollars!" he yelled, before running off with arms outstretched to either side.

Well, after giving it some thought, I warmed up to the idea and was pleased to present this early Christmas gift. We hope you are all as excited as we are.

I struggle to understand how people continually fail to understand the business model of games like these. Many players contribute little to no financial funding yet want to see features, capabilities, maps, mechs, etc. rolling out like crazy. Do you not understand this cost money? By forward funding clan, can't you see they are actually paying for the dev's to build it? I wish they would let us somehow advance CW's pace.

PGI can either choose to charge us subs, or pay as they go. If they had a larger paying fan base, the prices would go down. Nearly everything of any value is accessible to players who put in time but don't pay. I appreciate those who lack the funds, and keep the game playable with their participation.

Just because the cost to you is more than you want to pay doesn't mean it is wrong or unfair. Play the game the way you can afford it. If you are funding the content, why shouldn't you get early access and more advantages? If you aren't funding the content, isn't it fantastic you get to play a great game for free?

My post, here : http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__2990971 addresses your concerns.

PGI has received huge amounts of money for this game, already. I, personally, would be embarrassed to have contracted a game of this type to be developed for more than $2M dollars (and I'm including the first year of operating costs and content packages such as Phoenix - not relying on the Founders Package to subsidize that first year).

The Founders' package rolled in about $5M with Phoenix out-selling their expectations (so, figure another 5-7M).

Look at all of the $15 hero mechs running around and figure in Sabre.... plus the custom paint jobs and fancy medallions. They've probably pulled another $2-5M on that.

They've more than secured a decade of operating expenses.

I'm sure some troll will jump on here to bash me and the business which is providing us this service. Go for it, you just make yourself look pathetic. Post beta, this is one of the better MMO and simulators and fantastic stability. It is a great recreation of a legendary combat system. I appreciate the team who built it for us to enjoy.

I'm sorry, buddy - but I've worked software, before (to include games and content creation), and I've worked 'hard' industries, as well as service industries (healthcare).

I can usually spend ten minutes and show how a company can reduce their operating/development costs 10% right off the bat. A lot of companies make absolutely mind-bogglingly wasteful decisions. Others deliberately abuse internal contracts to embezzle money.

Regardless - it takes a lot of convincing to get me to buy into the idea that what most companies are doing is an efficient operation.

Skyrim - a game that entered development in 2006 and has on-going patching efforts - had an entire budget (including marketing) of 68 million dollars. PGI has, plausibly, seen revenues nearly 30% of that budget for a game that you can, literally, play for hundreds upon hundreds of hours (and still discover new ****). Most of that game's expenses come from the specific scripting and voice-acting/animating of main quest lines. Marketing is also a good 10-15% of that budget.

Path of Exile was developed on roughly $4M dollars before its Open Beta - and it released as a largely complete game with end-game content and fully implemented RPG and leveling elements. The beta was, truly, for adding new features and bug testing the game that they wanted to release. During the beta - the game would change rapidly from week to week and if you were out of it for more than a month - you almost felt as if you were learning to play a new game.

You need to understand that there are such things in this world as predators, and that they take many, many forms.

Right now - I would compare MWO to something that Zynga would produce. While "FarmVille" is all well and good - at the end of the day - buying the "Clan Package" doesn't really get you anything more - and the game is not going to increase in overall depth because you bought new sparkle-ponies.

Of course - even Zynga produces new game depth and new game features. They encourage you to include your friends into the game. They have more COMMUNITY SUPPORT for their games than MWO has. A ******* card game I have on my phone has more community functions than MWO has.

I mean... what are you paying for, really?

Then the blatant idiocy started happening around a month before OB, and PGI pretty much stopped giving a flying wombat. It's been downhill ever since.

We'll have to disagree about when the idiocy started, I'm of the opinion it started right after OB when the voices of those who were actually interested in the success of the game were replaced by the mouth-breathers screaming "I WANT IT NOW!" and the catering to the CoD crowd that brought in things like 3PV and restricted groups, because a true Mechwarrior game was more than their 16 button lifestyle could handle.

Having said that, I'm not going to say that I haven't received what I've paid for, I will say that it's taking a buttstupid long time to get the advertised features that prompted me to make purchases in the first place.

There is no way in hell I'm dumping anymore money into this game until we get real gameplay like CW, UI2.0, Lobbies....I can't even play grudge matches against my friends.

Not to mention, where the hell is single player?

Why was WoW so much cheaper yet had way better graphics and 100000x more content?

I think my money is going into Star Citizen....

OMG. When did they anounce the Clan Pack? And 164 pages of posts more or less saying the same .. PGI, you really made my day. I wonder how you can exist as a company that way. Game busniess must be totally different from normal business. Imagine a plumber selling "Here have a draft of how I think I might be able to fix your water conduit" for 100 bugs.

Those are called Blueprints, or Plans, or Engineering Specs. And that happens every day, for a lot more money.

Just saying.

More like that same plumber coming to your house telling you he can fix it for a couple grand, not giving you any definite plan how they're going to do so. Taking your money leaving you with a couple half naked lady tool ad calenders and not coming back for a year and a half, and when he does still doesn't have a definite answer how.

Nope.

It's more like the plumber wrote up the plans, purchased and installed the material he sold you, but hasn't filled in the hole yet. That's a more accurate picture IMO

After leaving your house without working pipes for over year, claiming that he is "working" on it and then tells you a year later that "oh i just started" yet you still see no actual work being done and he is still asking for more money. Thats more like what they are.

I was referring to the engine-changes, and the DHS fiasco. I think we could agree on "right around OB start", as a time-period.

That's pretty much the point he was making. That and my point about the "design choices" that they made, and continue to make.

That is the UGLIEST Timberwolf I have ever seen. If you attach those LRMs to the Arms or the L/R Torso I hope someone ***** slaps you all. It looks like {Scrap}, I have seen some models drawn on the forms that look WAY better, those arms look like {Scrap}. Since when are the arms all blocky on any model of the Timberwolf? the LRM racks are stuffed on the shoulders where they normally have a gap between. It looks like you sat on your concept art and forgot to stretch it back out. Another thing is all I see here is concept art... no finished models. I dont see loadouts, or even slot list. I dont see anything to tell anyone what we are buying, I for one wont buy this until I know that the idiots buy 500$ gold mechs wont be getting something OP just because they got gold skin, "special code for them" Or Special setups Special module no one else can ever get when with our option for 4 modules. So you get your updates done you tell us something about the product you claim to be selling.

Nope, analogy doesn't work.
You've gotten everything you've paid for, just not the bonuses that made you go with the plumber in the first place.
He's done the bare minimum of the work you purchased, he just hasn't gone the extra mile of making it look good yet.
