Just curious.

I have a Windows 7 disk, but was waiting for money to upgrade my hardware before installing it (it would require me to reformat anyway). Does MWO not work for XP at all?

I'll bet it'll work on xp (name a game that doesn't from the last 4 years), but if you're going to win7 anywho, why not start getting used to it?

Waiting to upgrade hardware before installing? I assume you're gonna buy a new hdd and that's why you are waiting... Because windows 7 takes less resources than win xp sp3

The announcement was updated to include XP Service Pack 3, you'll be fine in the meantime before your upgrade.

I windows 7 should be much faster than XP (in fairness even later versions of Vista out performed XP on my wifes pittle weak laptop).

I have a 2.66ghz dual core, and I want to upgrade it to a quad. I also want to upgrade my aging video card (ATI Radeon HD 3850) as well.

Aside from the power supply, this computer is seven years old. I'm surprised it still handles most games released these days. The reason I'm waiting is I kind of want that fresh computer feeling where everything is new and upgraded rather tahn everything being seven years old. I'm kind of weird like that.

And yeah, I also want a new HDD (my 125gb HDD was awesome back when I bought it seven years ago, but these days people have terabyte drives at least and the thing is feeling crowded)... and a new motherboard to put it all on...

Hell I might as well be planning to get a brand new custom built computer, but that's life.

Unless that Pentium is a quad core, no.

Actually, are you trolling?

With an ID like Noah and a Laptop straight off the Arc I'd hope so.

Where did they say that it supports XP SP3? I can't find it.

Aside from my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 3850), I think I can handle those minimums. I'll have to see if my graphics card can handle it if I get in, but either way I need to upgrade it.

An 8800 GT video card has a fillrate of 9.6 GP/s and 33.6 GT/s.
An HD 3850 card has a filltrate of 10.7 GP/s and 10.7 GT/s.

So on the textures side you're going to be a little weak. But between the overall memory bandwidth of the cards, the 3850 comes out on top, by a far lead. It's 26.5/53 GB/s for the 3850 vs. 12.8/22.4 for the 8800 GT depending upon individual model variants. So I wouldn't upgrade until you've tested it first. Your gameplay on that 3850 might be just fine.

Recommend that everyone take a look at the dev post titled MWO Minimum Specs.

Yeah, The 3850 is newer than the Nvidia 8800 cards, and was the 2nd best card by AMD at the time. The HD3000 cards were in compitition with Nvidia's 9000 cards, which is one generation newer than the 8800gt. Only issue I can think of with using the 3850 is the limited 512mb of video RAM.

Indeed. Isn't it funny how easy it is to spot people who don't read threads before posting? ;)
