Yeah, this is one of those hundred-tonners that I consider to be "Too-Munchkinny".
Double Gauss, PPCs, Even on Tabletop, it was only a step down from being as gamebreaking as a Devastator or Thunder Hawk.
I wouldn't want to see one in the game due to balance issues. If something is "The best", then it really doesn't have any more reason to be in the game than "The Worst".
"The Worst" scenario - Nobody uses it. CGL wasted their time.
"The Best" scenario - Nobody uses anything but. All other designs fall into disfavor. CGL has wasted their time.
As it is, Jagermechs and Cataphracts vastly outnumber Dragons, Quickdraws, and Orions. Even the Catapult is falling by the wayside, these days.
Likewise with Medium Mechs, you frequently see the Shadowhawk, Hunchback 2SP, Cicada, and maybe Centurions (The new Phoenix designs withheld due to inevitably being popular while people level them up), but the Trebuchet, the Hunchback J, the Laser Centurion... they all fall to the wayside.
None of these designs are particularily gamebreaking with the boardgame, but plopping a Nightstar into the same game with them will heavily upset the game balance, IMO. That's why I don't want to see it.
That, and it doesn't really get re-introduced until 3058'ish. I've seen 3025 Devastators, but no proof that the Nightstar shows up prior to the clan invasion. For that matter, it was only in production for one year, during the first year of the first succession war, before it got blown up. It's so rare at this point that even Comstar doesn't hold any in significant numbers.
