Unit Lore

Dating back to the Star League Era, the 13th Royal Battlemech Division is an ancient mercenary unit formed in the early days of ComStar's Mercenary Review Commission. The 13th Royal Battlemech Division is primarily formed from the ashes of the 13th Royal Mechanized Infantry Division and the remnants of the 251st Battlemech Division as well members of several other former SLDF units that participated in Operation Silver Shield and the liberation of Terra for ComStar in 2788.

While a strong supporter in the early days of ComStar, the 13th soon realized that the ideals of the original Star League that ComStar initially represented were slowly being twisted, perverted or set aside in favour of a more fundamentalist policy of control and influence peddling over the Inner Sphere.

Not wishing to betray their heritage, the members of the 13th held onto a desire to promote the precepts and ideals of the Star League in hopes that some day the First Lord, The Star League and the SLDF, would be reformed. Seeing that ComStar was asking them to participate in activities that were contrary to those ideals they quickly moved to distance themselves from such influences.

Over the years the 13th Royal Battlemech Division has served many different masters as a mercenary force. They have always striven to serve those who would help to further the noble cause of stability and peaceful security that were precepts of the SLDF, however, this goal has not always been possible and their hands have not always been bloodless.

The 13th has recently relocated their base of operations to the world of Outreach after having spent many years on Galatia. It is hoped that this relocation will help distance them from some of the tainted history that is associated with the "Mercenary Star".

The 13th is currently seeking contracts with any of the Noble Houses in advancing the cause of stability and unification of the Inner Sphere in hopes of one day seeing a reformed and restored Star League once more.

Recruiting

The 13th Royal Battlemech Division is seeking the services of talented battlemech pilots to serve under martial contract.

Successful recruits will be required to participate in a rigorous training and evaluation process under the close supervision of our talented team of recruiters.

Recruits to the 13thRBD will be expected to demonstrate understanding and appreciation of our Code of Conduct and formally commit to honour and respect the traditions of the13thRBD.

Recruits will be evaluated on their ability to mesh and integrate themselves into the existing unit cohesion and become an integral member of the team.

Successful Recruits will be rewarded for their loyalty and growth by being provided with opportunities to advance and to accept additional responsibilities and duties within the unit.

The ideal recruit will be able to carefully balance the challenges of working in a fast paced, technically demanding environment while simultaneously participating in the jovial friendly camaraderie and Esprit de Corps that is a hallmark tradition of the 13thRBD.

The 13th Royal Battlemech Division is a Professional Mercenary Unit. Our battlemech pilots are dedicated to a continuous cycle of improvement and teamwork. Our philosophy is that battles are fought and won with soldiers. Training builds soldiers. Soldiers are weapons. We forge weapons.

It is an unfortunate truth. There is a lot of negativity in the MWO community. A lot of folks who seem to think the thing to do is slag on MWO and PGI at every turn in the road. It's what the cool kids are doing so that must make it right.

But we have a theory in the 13th. We have a feeling that the majority of people out there don't feel negative about the way things are progressing. But they don't want to engage in an argument with the haters everytime they voice that opinion. So they have repressed their views and their feelings or been forced to parrot the sentiments of their teammates just to try and fit in.

We know what that sort of bitter and poisonous environment can do to a person. We don't have any place for it in the 13th. Rational and respectful debate on the new features and announcements are always encouraged. But hate and bile has no shelter.

If you are looking for a place where you can be allowed to feel positive about the game you enjoy playing and feel comfortable around others who share those views, then consider joining the 13th.

Enjoy playing the game again.

Ya. To echo Kiel. We're supporters of PGI. More importantly, we're fans of MWO, and we still have loads of fun when we play the game. We recognize that there have been some snags along the way during this open development process, but we're still having fun and are hopeful of the new things to come.

A number of the 13th are old-school Battletech and Mechwarrior fans, so we're grateful to have a current Mechwarrior game to be playing. Even if it may have a few flaws here and there.

In short, haters gonna hate, but it's a bandwagon we're not keen to get on. Its still very fun to focus on playing the game.

I saw this on the concept art repaint thread:

Thanks Vas. It's encouraging to see more and more merc units cooperating and forming bonds.

And that's another one of our primary pillars, cooperation. Fitting in well with respect, and professionalism, cooperation is a major key to success within MWO, and therefore, within the 13th Royal Battlemech Division.

co·op·er·a·tion
kōˌäpəˈrāSHən
noun
noun: cooperation; noun: co-operation

The process of working together to the same end.
"They worked in close cooperation to overcome the oncoming enemy."

synonyms: collaboration, joint action, combined effort, teamwork, partnership, coordination, liaison, association, synergy, synergism, give and take

Good hunting!
