Holy Mechajeezus, has no one here ever played a 'F2P' game form Aeria games?

I'll use Scarlet Blade as my most recent experience with them. They're selling freaking *lingerie* items in "lucky boxes" for 2 dollars USD a pop. Now you might think thats fine, But the contents of that box is a class limited version of the item you wanted with a sub 5% chance to drop, and then HP potions and other useless items you can buy ingame from a vendor.
Could you imagine if you couldn't buy any of the IS 'Mechs for MC, except by selecting an "Assault/Heavy/Medium/Light Lucky Box" that cost 2 dollars each, and only contained a low chance of getting what you want, or filled up your inventory with Small Lasers on a 95% chance.

Reports from MANY players of spending several hundred dollars to get what they wanted, Only to give up past the 300+ mark.

And the funniest part is that the only way to get those items was to try your luck with the 'Lucky Boxes'! They have nothing on the costume front that you can buy outright. NOTHING.
Not even the mounts can be bought upfront, except a generic recolored one that existed in the game already, not to mention the stat boosting pets that could ONLY be bought with cash.

PGI said:
Hey heres some Clan Mechs, if you want em early, buy the package, If not, just wait, they'll release for cbills eventually! Oh, and if you want to support us with a large purchase, here is a gold plated, 100% unique 'Mech skin for your favorite Clan chassis and we'll throw in a Title for you as well!

And suddenly the world is ending.

The article reads very much like a flame from a particularly literate member of this forum.

... And do people actually read Forbes for video games?

Whats the big deal?

If you can afford it, go ahead and get your unique mech. If you can't, don't fret?

The very few who CAN afford to throw 500$ at a mech will get "more unique mech for their money's worth", because they will truly stand out on the battlefield.

I don't care what ANYTHING in this game costs, as I can get everything I need for FREE.

Which is, in essence, how a Free to Play game operates.

Is your Money worth more than your Time?
There are those like me, who work a lot and have a lot of excess spending cash that probably gets sunk on silly things anyway. Might as well be a Gold plated MadCat eh.

Lulz!

What we have here is a Forbes contributor who happens to play the game and is a little asshurt about the Clan Pack. This doesn't even pass the standard of journalism by providing context, much less correlations to the rest of the industry.

Author, GG, you've used your platform as a contributor for Forbes to voice your tantrum.

On a slightly related note. Remember when news outlets were REALLY news outlets and not just opinion blogs? Thanks HuffPo.

At the point where you're comparing MWO to a quasi-game designed to extract money from people who have not realized that the internet is full of free pornography, something has gone horribly wrong with MWO.

I wish that this article was all rage and lies.

Sorry: It's just rage.

Who gives a turkey about the Gold 'Mechs? Don't buy it! I don't care about your reason for disliking it: If you don't like it, don't buy it!

Did nobody notice how PGI couldn't sell t-shirts, even at their own party? What are the odds they can't do merch along the lines of Catalyst Game Lab products?

And while we're addressing "common playerbase derpage:" Push the gorram R key!

Everybody knows the entire staff of Forbes is on an island

(a smartly ran, cautiously invested, highly publicized, well respected island)

It's really not a matter of "if you can afford it" its a simple issue with ethics and how to properly run and fund a business. It is your money and you can spend it any way you please but funneling it into unethical, consumer-hostile and downright greedy business practices only serves to validate and enforce said practices as being viable and proper in the marketplace and that isn't good for anyone. It's called "consumer responsibility" and yes I fully realize that in the modern area such things are becoming a thing of the past in favor of "YOLO", I guess I'm just old-fashioned.

The problem is (my personal opinions on the article aside which is a bit biased IN my personal opinion which is why I'm about to give an UNBIASED view of this situation) that Forbes is a respected journalistic publication. The editorials in it are opinionated (as all editorials are) and whether you agree with them or not, this is a rather large and generally well respected publication basically saying PGI is cash grabbing and putting their worst foot forward.

As someone else in this post stated "do gamers even read Forbes for reviews? lolol" While this might seem light hearted and not have much of an impact on gamers, gamers aren't deep pocket investors for the most part. Corporations and big publishers are though. Companie like microsoft (you think THEY might have some sort of interest in how MWO is being developed?) DO read and respect Forbes.

I could care less what 99.9% of the forumites care about the article to be honest. I care what big money investors, corporations, and professional companies and industry leaders think because THEY can actually have much more of an impact on the survival of this game.

PGI meet the rest of the professional world. You have jsut been slapped and challenged on an entirely new level. You're a multi-million dollar company. Start acting like it. Start acting like you belong in the world that Forbes reports on.

I think the article helps to capture a lot of the frustration in the community and helps to support the community through the writers opinions as well as having this article actually on well respected and trusted business news company.

Okay the average person may not pay much attention for Forbes... but here's hoping that PGI, IGP and any other company executives, investors, and industry leaders actually pay attention to this article and see the community backlash.

Bad press is not going to be good press here! angering your community and weakening (or even destroying) a well established IP is not a good thing for PGI's future. Their industry reputation is taking a dive! The more noise the community makes and the longer it goes on the worse things will become for them in the long run.

Like it or not the media is an important force for change. I encourage everyone to make their voices heard not only on the MWO forums but many other channels available out-there, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, pinterest, etc.. anything and everything.

I hope things change for the better and PGI develops the mechwarrior game we want but it feels like its time to prepare for the worst..

it's all IGP's doing sandpit, you watch the advert and there's a shadow, look at the pose the slight torso twist etc... it's exactly like the concept art. PGI have done NOTHING with regards to organising clans, they're just bubbling up posibilities now after cutting out and backlighting the concept for thier "campaign"

the whole clan cash grab has "rushed" all over it hardley anything is explained there's no slow announcements of each mech etc it's just BAM here's a cash grab.

IGP are awfull awfull people and they're running the game into the ground with their schedual push greediness.
