I want to buy a Gold Mech, not necessarily because I'm rich, or bored, but I do want to support the game and enjoy playing it.

The obvious finalists for my purchase are the Dire Wolf, Masakari, Timber Wolf, Mad Dog (not available right now... but surely in the future???).

Unfortunately, I know from experience that assault class mechs are notoriously difficult to find matches with (my Misery and Battlemasters are collecting dust, both of which were paid with real money). Then there's talk of weight restrictions for matches (which I think is totally awesome and can't wait)... but that would suggest that if I were to buy a Gold Mech they will only end up collecting dust in the hangar, and I really REALLY don't want to spend $500 on something that won't be played.

Suggestion: If Gold mechs are really going to be extremely rare, how about making Gold Mechs not apply to weight restrictions in a PUG match? Or, similarly, Gold Mechs get "priority" for weight selection and/or game queue. That way if someone owns a Gold Mech, they can always play it if they so choose.

ewww. no. They should be giving you the total package WITH the gold mech of your choice for that price.

Or permanent premium time. That price is insane for a mech skin + early access to a single mech.

All gold mechs will be KOS to a lot of people because of the price. Something to consider before you purchase. Will my team target me?

Which... I'm sad to say is just asinine.

One may disagree with the whole money grab... with the whale stigma... or what ever means to preface their decision.

Fact is, they are, by their own volition plunking down big bucks for a shiny gold mech and investing in the future of the MW:O...

And they should expect to be hated so venomously for it?

Personally, I'd like to thank them for a.) having that kind of spare dosh... and b.) Supporting the game I've grown to love.

Oh, to be sure... I plan on shooting them without prejudice, but I'd offer that recourse to any mech be it "free" or $500 bones.

Why? Because the owner dared to support a game you enjoyed playing? Grow up.

They'll likely be focus targets going forward just because they're shiny and stand out really well (assuming the gold paint does its job). That makes it super easy for everyone who sees it to focus it, which the lack of voice comms makes difficult for PUGs. Having a big, shiny target to focus will help all the solo players to shoot the same target, so I don't expect them to last very long on the field.

Look at World of Tanks Golden Type 59 and then re-run the whole scenario through your thought process again.

Pro Tip: PGI should have done kickstarter.

Umm Kickstarter projects generally have to hit deadlines.

I liked how my founders support for MWO went to IGP and then it went towards other games that are also published by them.

Did it, how would you know? More than likely it went to PGI and when PGI paid their license fees to IGP that money got recycled, but you still directly supported the developer of the game you wanted.

Crowd Funding then. Like what RSI is doing with Star Citizen, they got away with not having a publisher at all. And therefore benefit by having the freedoms that come along with not having a publisher telling them what to do all the time. For example having the ability to choose the direction the development team progresses for themselves.

I've seen some of the worst money grabs, poor direction of development (ahem cockpit hangy danglies who gives a **** about those things as they dont add anything to the game play, its just monetizing garbage for stupid people who support IGP's ********) and in general the treading of water that has gone on in MWO since the beginning.

Why are you people under the impression that IGP is the bad guy in this situation? IGP is PGI and PGI is IGP. They have even said this themselves. There is no big bad publisher calling the shots. If there is any money grubbing cash grabbers it's all the same people. Don't try to take PGI off the hook. They've made this bed of nails, let them lie in it.

If we saw some actual progress since the end of beta I'd be more compassionate and understanding but yeah hows that going? Also those packages from RSI are only for huge whales, people who have played and have had a lot of fun with his previous games and truly trust Chris Roberts vision. In the end who knows, I haven't bought any sort of crowdfunding or kickstarter prematurely since being burned by the lack of progress in this game.

It's all one in the same...

Right now SC has the benefit of some stellar marketing, glossy finish and a high degree of faith placed in (albeit) well know and respected frontman.

MW:O was largely in the same category until they (PGI) started down the slippery-slope of game-breaking decisions and messing with the good faith of their core constituents...

I hope SC succeeds for the sake of PC gaming... That said, I'd be lying if I wouldn't smirk a little if the fluffy Utopia the CS is being hyped into does not turnout to be as pedestrian when the wrapping paper is finally removed.

What about letting them "die of neglect"?

Progress? Star Citizen isn't even out yet!!

PGI/IGP needs better marketing person for sure.

Look at SC. Whatever thing they just got done, they release a little video to talk about it. They make "fake commercials" of spaceships, little videos about weapon testing racks and even just rendering of full ships just for the eye candy.

I didn't buy Saber reinforcement or any Clan package yet, but if they did make something like that with Saber 'mechs, or start releasing previews of Clan 'mechs just like that, I'll be more inclined to do so.

Also, they need a community manager who actually talks to players, like via YT shorts or makes frequent posts on the forum something. I still don't know whether Bryan or Garth is the community manager.

Now, I know MWO is running on like less than 1/3 of budget of SC, but c'mon, PGI, you could at least have one or two people to do the job.
