Ok, follow me here.

We're all waiting for the release of CW which will provide some sort of point to this game. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I do look forward to some sort of cohesive overall purpose to the game that ties together the constant deathmatching we have now. What I don't understand is the order of releases.

To my mind, the point of having an "us and them," or in this case the smaller division of IS great houses fighting and the larger of IS vs. Clan is that each side has their own unique advantages and disadvantages. During the launch preview of CW, they mentioned that certain mechs may be harder to come by if your faction doesn't own the planet they are produced on. This mechanic is already sort of ruined as all current and near future players - if the timeline of a year plus before CW begins is true - will have plenty of time to get whatever mechs they want before they become hard to find for your faction. The bigger issue though are clan mechs, which could only be acquired by IS pilots through salvage. However, with the release of the clan pack perhaps up to a year before CW is active, any pilot from any faction will be able to own any mech no matter what side ty play on. Even if you don't pre-buy the packs, you'll still have the cbill versions available. Clan vs. IS fights will look like clan vs. clan fights....only the loyalty badges will determine who is on which side. It will be like playing StarCraft where every player has every unit from every race. What's the point in that?

So really, what is the point? Do they have a surprise CW launch set before the clan packs drop? Will clan players not be allowed to take their IS mechs with them? Will IS players not be allowed to keep any clan mechs they purchase once CW begins? Is there even a point to CW if everyone just plays a madcat every drop?

The point is: a cash grab.

Copy pasta that addresses some of your questions with some sketchy answers and my opinion.

From the timeline expectations, it looks like the first stages of CW are slated to come out before the Clans. This includes player groups. Now, will this be tied into LOCKED CLAN or LOCKED IS options? No clue. At least you will be able to officially be a unit as far as the game is concerned.

My question about CW is "what does it change?" Hear me out for a sec.... If CW gets released tomorrow, the games will still play out the same way as it has. Attacking a planet? Play MWO. Defending a planet? Play MWO. Yes, it seems that holding certain territory and having certain loyalties will mess with the prices of mechs on the black market, but if you can buy the mechs with cash anyways that is not a barrier anyways. Really the reason I am rather apathetic about the whole CW thing. MW3 and MW4 lasted a long time on a combination of player made leagues and the ability to host private matches. Those two tools are just about all MWO needs, really. Anything else is fluff IMO.

So, we might very well see Clan mechs in IS hands day one of their release. Supposedly tighter tonnage limitations will be set in place for Clan mechs. If it is 60 tons per player per IS mech, it might be 50 tons per player per Clan mech when the team total available tonnage is tallied up.
