Hi! I'm new to the BattleTech universe, but I'm pretty hooked on this game. I already have a Cataphract-1x, almost fully loaded, or at least to my opinion.

I want a light mech, just for a change of pace in play style, and I want to play around with flamers, so I came up with this. Please note I have been playing for 3 days, so I don't know what is "effective" and what is " a warm waste of space" any feedback to fix this build is much appreciated, plus if you disagree with this build, maybe post a new one? Many thanks

Flamers really dont do much other than blind the person your shooting if its in their cockpit. It also heats them up a little but not enough to use 6, and damage is minimal.

Most jenner pilots seem to like 5-6 medium lasers with a 300XL and some DHS. It is a very noob friendly mech.

Oh ya forgot to say add Jump Jets also. oops

I'm going to be honest. Sorry.

The JR7-F is one of the best mechs in the game. Your build makes it one of the worst. To build it well: XL300 and six ML or SPL and a couple jumpjets. Lights are all about speed and so (near) max XL is a must. And the flamer is a useless weapon.

Don't mind the haters. DO IT! xD

A few days ago I put 2 flamers, 2 small lasers, and 2 medium on my Jenner F for fun. I could circle any lone mech and blind them with the flamer while I pumped the lasers into them. Is it the best option? No. Can you kill any fatty that is stuck by alone away from the pack, yes.

It was effective enough for people in different rooms to rage against me with some pretty disturbing outbursts. I have screenshots of games with more than one kill and 550+ damage soooo, it can't be that bad for a light. Especially for a troll build.

Try it, at the very least you will be a huge help to your big guys when you are blinding the people they are smashing.

It'll be a cute little troll build. But you won't do massive damage or get a lot of kills with it.

Back in the day before "balancing," a flamer Jenner could've been something to fear.

Enjoy the only time it was vaguely viable in these two videos.
Very old videos. Music loud and mic terrible. I apologize.

I miss these days. Mechs were like stompy robots that chain fired, instead of lightning bolts that alpha strike.

This game isn't about massive damage or big K/D ratio. It's all about team win.

Skill & fun. ;)
Also it's good backup weapon for overheated Mech.

You'd be surprise, running circles around a blind assault while two of your assaults unload on him has a great effect.

I agree with Warge. Two flamers chained and 4 mlas is the way I would go in a Jenner F if I wanted to run flamers. It is worth noting that most lights don't worry so much about heat, so if you use flamers, remember that heavier mechs typically struggle more with heat than light mechs.

Try it once. Cry. Fix the build to use MLs.

I remember how in a match yesterday, I spent about thirty seconds being hit by a dual-flamer Spider.

As we all know, only skilled pilots use bad weapons and only unskilled ones use good ones. OP, one thing you might notice about the game is that it's hard to discuss balance, because everyone will try to enlarge their forum Yen-Low Wang by claiming they got a KDR of eleventy billion plus one in a Dragon with flamers and machine guns.

I remember having a Spider sitting behind me for about ten unbroken seconds, flaming away while I fought his teammate. Still had rear armour (in an Orion) when I finally got round to him, and it didn't impair my lasers one bit either. I can't think of any other weapons where I could do that.

Flamers are only good when paired with other weapons.

They blind and heat up the enemy (I've overheated a few in my time), which gives you a tactical advantage.

The ratio of your heat gain to their heat gain is about 2-3:1, meaning that you need quite a few DHS to make it worth while. And even then, the enemy's heatsinks simply negate the flamers if they have a lot.

Hang on a sec did i click on the wrong link? Not sure how serious you were when making this build but I hope you noticed that you have almost zero armor. I mean if you want to do this build go ahead but put some armor in. Change ferro to endo to get more armor at least. (Secretly I think its a troll post but every question on the forum that can be a little serious should be given appropriate thought and a response to help players new and old alike)

Huh didnt look at the armor bt yes you absolutely have to have max leg armor, jenners have a fairy large head hit box as well so make sure you have atleast 16 in there, then max or near max everywhere else. You also need a way bigger engine generally XL engines are the only way to go for lights, XL300 is best for jenners.
