So in otherwords, doing what every other game development company does.

LOL yes, every other game company has articles about forum revolts and has their game reviews include that fact as well as mentioning that promised and needed features are missing at launch. Every other game company has to remove the General Discussion Forum because it was full of "notorious complainers". Every other game company has to have upper management put out messages to put out the dumpster fire it creates with all it's misguided bloops and blunders. Every other game company has to delay it's Open Beta due to being unready. Every other game company has it's launch event look like it was put together by the HS A/V squad. Every other game company is mentioned as an example of what not to do on other game forums.
And anyways who would expect better right. I mean why strive for more when you can settle and have people say it's ok.

RG Notch - basically yeah. Even The Great Valve had some serious PR issues when it came to light that HL2 wasn't just unfinished, but the demo shown at E3 showcasing what was supposed to be top notch AI was entirely scripted. All water under the bridge now though right? Im no fan of PGI's pricing - but if they really needed that Christmas deadline then I don't see how else they would have hit that.

Arenanet successfully runs server-wide events on a consistent schedule. They also don't over-promise and under-deliver. They also do a really great job with community management and are a model for really great game development. I'm sorry that you think all developers are basket cases, but there are really good companies out there.

Wait a minute, you said EVERY game company. Your reply doesn't list EVERY game company, it only lists one. It also doesn't include removal of General Discussion Forum. So I await your list that includes EVERY game company or else you are, again by your own "logic" wrong. Come back with a meme or something like you always do when proved wrong.

ArenaNet have an EVIL real money shop. They also TOTALLY screwed their Karka invasion event along with welfare precursors (i got one) and vertical progression which they promised not to introduce. My entire guild of irl friends including me quit that game over these reasons... Soo yeah, ArenaNet: not the champions you were looking for ;)

The beta was really good though, so it's not like we didnt get our money's worth even before launch. Just a shame they went back on so many promises. Sound familiar? That's business! Vote with yer wallets fellas!

Sounds like you're on a bit of an island.

Edit:

On a more serious note, I'm sorry you're not happy with how the game turned out. Anet is still a champion amongst devs.

I don't think you can really be singing their praises too much, or if you do, then you ought to be giving PGI the same benefit of the doubt - ANet made a lot of people rage with their poor handling of the Karka, their forums pretty much burst into flame.

It's apples and oranges so I don't see a contradiction. Anyway, the point of this thread isn't to bash any dev. It's to offer a glimpse of what could have been.

Yes it got derailed, and it's a shame that there wasn't a better lead up to the Klan Kollection's appearance. That said, maybe the Kill A Dev challenge was a test for something to come...

Indeed. I had hoped for a lot of hype, teasers, screenshots, etc. But anyways it is what it is. I don't know what PGI will do in the future but I can hope they've learned from this..... Can't I?

There's always hope for redemption. However, with every disappointment it becomes more difficult.

Yeah I had a bad experience with ANet, and zero customer service. Their forum moderation is some of the harshest I've ever seen in the game industry - if you say anything less than rosy about their very flawed game (for example why is their much vaunted "living story" so utterly lame and plagued by those annoying jumping puzzles), your post gets deleted. As tough as the mods on the MW forum here can be (see one above), the ANet ones are on a completely higher level of jackboot. I quit playing GW2 because of it. Similar to PGI, ANet has a bad case of "we are always right" attitude.

If you want a model MMO company, look to one like EnMasse Entertainment that localizes and runs Tera Online (one may not agree with every decision in Tera but a lot of that falls on the original Korean devs). EmE has industry leading customer service and support, for example if you accidentally delete an item they will usually replace it for you the first few times anyway. And this is in a totally F2P game, not a subscription MMO or even one that requires an upfront purchase like GW2 did.

Dunno, heard a lot of my friends complain about the support for Tera. But well, I think there is no single game or company out there that never got a complaint about anything.

Agreed, hopefully when the actual clan launch happens PGI will have prepared something suitably fitting for their entrance.

This would have been wonderful.... I was excited just by reading it. LIke a true Clan invasion...

Awsome...:D

Instead we can buy a 240§ pakcage and wait another 6 month till you are able to play with them. Well the Alacarte system brings back some hope. But they defenetly missed out a huge oportonuty.

Instead pay up front to play them

Most is coming from a small group of disgruntled individuals who have decided it is more fun to try and ruin games then play them.

...

bwahahahahahahahahahahaha omg

yeah...that's probably it, lol. :D Well I guess PGI will print your post, frame it and hang it on the wall. Then they will continue to not look at the reactions to their ideas in the forums and will just keep going. :o

Guys, you're forgetting the most important thing about xhrit's Valve comparison:

They weren't asking for money until after the game was out, thus via this slimmest of teeeeeeny slivers of pedantic word-twisting margin he's totally 100% wrong.
