Actually it was originally written the Friday evening of the Clan "announcement", with some editing on Saturday. I did chuckle when I heard some elements of my idea mirrored in the Kongcast. Great minds think alike.

Sat around in TS a number of times talking about the same thing.

"What if , when you target the 1st 'mech the hud flickers back and forth between 'mechs not being able to decide what it is ala the Madcat appearance in 'Lethal Heritage'"

Would have been awesome.

Cheers.

Natural Selection also has a great scene where the main character witnesses a clan modified Battlemaster fire over and over and over seemingly way beyond what a mech should be able to do without overheating, before finally getting his own mech shot out from under him.

It boggles my mind, that none of this stuff has actually existed in MWO's existance.

Even the "mech releases" prior to the Phoenix Pack have these poorly written "fiction" written for them (possibly with a poor theme idea to boot), instead of having some hired BT fiction writer to generate some actual fervor for the next mech in line, citing lore or famous battles or even history of the mech itself.

It's as cold as everything sold to us to date, including the ads written for each sale. Heck, even the Inner Sphere "news" bits were kinda meh, uninspired, and just did not have any effort to it.

I'm not sure if Bryan is response for this, but he is the Creative Director for this game, and these things he should be responsible for, even if it doesn't sell more mechs. For the new player that has NO IDEA about the BT universe, there has been very little fanfare about how each and every mech is special. All we get to care about (because there's nothing else to discuss) is how a mech is meta compliant and/or how its hardpoints and hitboxes are good/bad for this game.

What is the point of remembering how Jenners and Ravens were special or how the Highlander or Orion is a signature mech...

These are so many opportunities that continue to get squandered and many other games that don't have a universe or a history backing them seem to have MORE flavor provided to the uninitiated yet, this game only produces them and nothing to show for it.

That is a sad state of affairs for a game that tries to claim itself as a AAA title.

Basically every two days minimum, War Thunder has some news piece on a famous air battle, airplane, pilot, etc. Why can't MWO keep it going?

Your idea is excellent. I'd discussed something similar with my clan mates a while back and everyone would have loved it. Now, I didnt expect half of the things you said to actually happen, but that they are all feasible...*sigh*.

This all could have been so much better, at the very least not a PR nightmare. Funny thing is, as vocal as I have been against this whole thing, I'm a total clan nerd since the 90's. If they had done this reveal after CW(so it could be an actual invasion, not just in name), with half of the things you mentioned I would have gladly have bought both the warden AND the crusader packs, and been damn proud of it. Not to mention, actually logging in and buying things like mechbays. As it is, I'm ashamed of my overlord tag, and don't really log in, except on these forums to see if there has been any progress of fixing this debacle.

The one problem I see with this idea is what happens if that random Pug team facing the Clanners on May 4th end up being a total incompetent team, with tkers, constant arguing, and shooting each others backs instead of actually playing. Instead of this, I think it should be in a 12v12 premade match to prevent Pug team failure. Also, what happens if the IS team wins against the Clan mechs for some reason? It is possible, like if a fully competitive team just wanted to take a break and face the Clans. Who knows however, maybe this idea could potentially happen on the following dates, just that we have the packages now, but we could still be ambushed by something similar to this. But good idea. Maybe it even was the cause of this Hunt PGI challenge, who knows? :P

This is sort of like what happened with Hi-Rez Studio's Global Agenda. The devs had an event where they dropped into the public que with new loot that players could not get yet, and if players won, the players would get some said loot.

The hardcore players complained that the devs messed up their stats for worthless loot they were just going to get in a few months anyway.
The casuals complained the devs were not online enough for casual people who only played a few matches per day to drop with them.
The foreigners complained the devs were not online at the correct times, so the devs were disrespecting other countries with their inconsiderate event.

The complaining got so bad, Hi-Rez decided to permanently close their forums. I'm not going to go so far as to say most of the negative posts on those forums was instigated by goons, but...

Yeah, an incompetent team might cause problems, so have some auto-spamming chat stuff appear in a different area of the HUD or something.

The IS team can be prevented from winning with skimish mode drops and having the clan mechs just ignore damage.

This is why i'd have given the clan mechs 4-5x armor. Presumably the devs could be even marginally competent and still win.

Without salvage there's no worry or relevance to Xhrit's pointless name and shame anecdote.

It's essentially "name and claim" without actually offering up any reasoning.

No worry of people complaining? Like that would ever happen. this is the internet. Some people will complain about anything.

Others, have made it their mission to complain about everything. It is clear to me you have been planning on complaining about the clans before anyone even knew they were coming out, no matter what way it was going to be handled by PGI.

I mean is it really your stated goal to drive PGI's customer base away, because the game has failed to live up to your idealized expectations?

I just think it's a shame most "gamers" these days would rather **** on games than play them.

What he said

I'm just saying what if the team is incompetent. I'm not complaining.

Yeah, I think as long as the Clanners don't shoot each other (I highly doubt PGI would shoot each other), then they'd probably win. The main problem is the IS team. And if the IS team is incompetent, what could the Clanners do, break out of their disguises and ban the tker/arguer/whatever? But this is just a few battles and can be substituted in other ways, like if PGI could, this could be also a test for AI and AI pilots could drop with 12 Clan mechs that are invincible. I'm just saying what if scenario. Overall this plan could've been a fantastic one.

Edit:

If you're aiming the complain comment at him instead of myself, I think mint frog was suggesting an idea that could've happened rather than what did happen. He isn't complaining. He's speculating constructively.

So to teach me a lesson to never offer constructive criticism ever again, you plan on repeatedly trolling this thread with baseless accusations?

My stated goal has been constant for the past year. I want to save a game and a franchise that I loved. It's not that the game hasn't lived up to my idealized expectations. From all available evidence, the Clan 'reveal' being the most recent, shows us that there aren't any expectations at all.

This is just criticism, not constructive criticism.

And by "save" what you really mean is, "drive all their paying customers away".

That's your uninformed opinion. As evidenced by the tremendous outpouring of support for my vision in this thread, it's a minority opinion as well. Perhaps you're just on an island?

I'm sorry that you feel that way. Perhaps with some reflection, you can get over the Goon-shaped chip on your shoulder.

@xhrit Just stop trolling on this thread. He isn't saying don't support PGI, he is saying that he wished this happened instead of what really happened.
