If the player continues to not play, it's not a reward. If the player returns to play the mech, the reward is for coming back to play. Presumably the game will have improved enough by that point that a returning player will want to stick around.

You miss the point. Your offer alienates playing players. I don't discuss if PGI is offended by giving free mechs to sleeping accounts (I couldn't care less). I state that it's active players who are offended by not getting the same bonus as comebackers. Do as you proposed - and you can expect "strikes until we get the same reward for our inactivity" from active playerbase.

The current players are rewarded with reduced wait time for matches, and the knowledge that the game will be healthy moving through the next year. (Just to clarify, it would only be a single variant, and not the hero version)

(Yawn) not nearly enough (especially with current grind). As an active player I'm grossly offended with such attitude from devs. Moving away to WoT (NEW YEAR SALES! NEW YEAR BONUSES! TANK GIFT for EVERYONE, though low tier! Festive Hangar!)/Star Citizen/elsewhere until they bring me back with some candy like they did with non-playing dudes. Also expect another 200+ pages forum nuke of hate spilling out to major gaming sites.

I'd be ok if they awarded a mech like this to anyone who hasn't played in 2 months AND has less than 10 posts on the forums. :)

xhrit please keep threadshitting because it serves the dual purpose of bumping the thread and making PGI apologists look dumb.

"Hey wouldn't it be neat if we had an awesome reveal event" "EVERYTHING IS FINE, SUGGESTING BETTER IS SABOTAGE!"

More like "PGI is fail for not doing an awesome reveal event", but ignoring the fact that doing so would be totally impractical, and would make a lot of people mad.

PGI has no problem making players mad for other reasons. I mean who wouldn't get mad if they were told they weren't the target demographic, or that they are a tiny vocal minority, or that CW is alwasy 6 months away, or anyone who complains is on an island, or you'll never have to drop with 3PV ...just kidding, etc.

Just because you repeatedly scream that it would have been totally impractical doesn't make it a "fact".

In all seriousness, that's probably not a bad idea - we've been repeatedly told that the forums population is basically a minor piece of the puzzle, so why not something targeted towards the rest of the population?

Conversely, just because you repeatedly scream that it would have been easy, doesn't make it true.

Ask Hi-Rez, or Games Workshop what they think of their forum's population.

I'd rely upon the thread full of very intelligent and technologically capable people who say it was a great idea and quite feasible. It seems you're on your own, having offered nothing to back up your assertions other than troll after troll.

That is true, but only if you totally ignore everyone in this thread who has disagreed with you.

No grasp of real business though.

On one hand the #savemwo has advocated not spending anything on MWO but then expects all their heartfelt realities to appear.

What resource does this marketing strategist intend to use "pixie dust"?

(BTW I'm not advocating anyone should pay in an FPS game or how you spend your money, but to have pipe dreams and not pay a penny? Self fulfilling prophecy for broken dreams)

Well since we're roleplaying as PGI in this thread it would be totally easy for me to ignore everyone in the thread that disagrees with whatever the hell I am going to do anyway.

There are a lot of players who really like BattleTech, and are happy to play a game that captures a decent amount of the fun they've had over the years.

Unfortunately, there are also a lot of players who really, really, really like BattleTech — so much, apparently, that they lack both reasonable expectations and the capacity to constructively respond to reality. I guess this move from boycott to design in absentia marks the latest slide into fantasy.

That's cute. :P Like "players" need any excuse to be mad about nothing. This Forum is a perfect example of that. It does not matter what the Dev do. The "players always get "mad" even when it would appear to be a good thing.

Dev Teams do not kill games. Players and their inherent hate for all things they "perceive" as not what "they wanted" individually kill games.

Playing MWO is a blast. If you do not find it to be that way then why play or waste time blubbering on about it on the games Forum? Right..... Everyone cares... The ingenuousness of that statement is just so....

@mint frog

Well stated but inherently flawed as of the 3rd paragraph (stopped there btw, no need to proceed). The result of 12 buffed Clan Mechs, quickly wiping out 12 IS Mechs, would be a Hailstorm of Hate, Vitriol and unbelievable BS, such that the "3rd person" incident would become but a weak foot note in this Forums history.

We know from previous terrifying experiences that you cannot show the "Players" anything that is not the "real" deal as trying to explain that is was just for "FUNNSIES", or a work in progress with changeable #'s is not possible.

So good try sir but you are working with the "wrong audience" in mind.

It's done all the time in MMOs for major events when scripted events need to go a certain way. Having been on the implementation side of more than one of these events, it's not uncommon for mobs/bosses to have essentially infinite life to avoid players accidentally screwing it all up by killing things too early. Later, the events are adjusted to actual values.

So in short, it happens all the time in lots of games. That you think it's not possible just shows you either don't play very many games, or you just came in here to complain about something.

Thanks for visiting the thread and reading up to the the third paragraph. Clearly your time is valuable and I appreciate that you decided to spend a fraction of it actually reading the plan before you came up with this useless and uninformed post. I would look forward to your reply but you probably won't make it past the first few sentences before being distracted by something shiny.

GW don't have a forum because their business model engenders a toxic community deliberately to encourage userbase churn and to undercut the secondary market. Given that I published some work for Mordhiem under this username see below via Fanatic you can back that up as an "insider" statement if you feel like being an internet detective.

ETA: forgot I wasn't posting as "Arquinsiel" here... whoopsie.

Yes, there were so many missed opportunities here. I was honestly shocked at the way the clan packs were introduced. Clans should have been the ultimate sale and marketing for MWO, arguably the most important event in the game's history other than CW. However, CW should not have the same potential for monetization as the Clans.

And I am not referring to the prices. Sure, they are expensive -- but with the right marketing and an explanation of what you are actually getting, it might have been quite a bit more workable than I feel it is proving to be. Marketing fail coupled with all the other PGI baggage (CW, balance, role warfare et al) spells real trouble for the future of the game.
