I don't have anything against $500 mechs. What I have an issue with is I"m not clear what's in the packages in general. What's a warhorn, what kind of art do you get, etc. I'm not even sure what the mechs themselves will be like because the loadouts may change as PGI attempts to balance the clan tech. So, even for $260, what am I buying?

I'll quote a passage from "Bloodname (Book Two) from the Way of the Clans Trilogy" which sums it up best in regards to PGI Golden Clan Mechs.
"Nor would warriors give their Mechs glamorous refurbishing designed to produce a breath taking and radiant Battlemech whose purpose was more to impress than to fight with efficiency."

"A 'Mech as shiny as possible, as expensive as possible, and as silly and ridiculous as conceivable, so that laughter itself will be our ally"-Aleksandr Kerensky, on the designing of the golden Mechs.
At least, I think that's how it went.

I do however think that (from a game revenue perspective) the price of the first gold mech should include the Masakari clan mech collection as well. (So that the premium for the gold mech is $260.00) ... I wouldn't buy it either way but I suspect that a larger fraction of the folks willing to pay $240.00 for the full clan mech pack would be more tempted by an additional $260.00 for a gold mech rather than an extra $500.00. Mostly because it would tend to feel like a "better deal" than it is right now.
Honestly, I wasn't tempted at all.

And yet in a certain other game nobody cares about buying something you know none of the specs for and some of the packages run FIVE FIGURES. Yet I never see anyone planning on TKing an Idris...

This package made me consider crafting a table top miniature out of actual gold for 500 dollars.

Personally I don't see the big deal. It is not a cynical move to claw money from all of us and yes it is out of reach for most of us but then it is not meant for most of us. It is merely an excuse for those that have wads of cash lying around to financially support the game and get a little token reward so they can show their devotion to the game if they so wish. Would I buy a gold mech if I was rich? God no, I would blow it on more board games that I will probably not get to play very often if at all.
