Given what we have now, and the current Meta, how in the hell is one supposed to get close enough, while starting from farther away, to apply sufficient damage to deter an enemy with superior Tech? Even if you have 25% more Mechs.

Which is why you can't have Clan tech be twice as good with teams half the size and then make ~66% of players be IS. If you make clan tech so much better most people will use that and then the game will mostly be clan vs clan and I'm guessing they aren't going for that. Or they could do mix tech but I'm guessing a lot of the lore minded won't like that either and most would still be picking clan tech.

The issue is more of how much is most 51% is most and 99% is most. The folks playing the actual Invasion (like me) are going to play cause they want to try to upset Canon One way or the other! I wanna y my hand at beating the Clans. I don't want to beat a watered down Goliath. That will be no fun. I can fight Kuritans for that!

With regard to balancing pilots - that is supposed to be done by Elo.
Half the IS didn't see the Clans, at least directly. Assuming we have enough players I am assuming (dangerous thing to do here I know) that we will have IS v IS, Clan v Clan and Clan v IS, at least once CW comes in.
A practised high Elo team in IS mechs will slaughter average PUGs in Clan mechs.

I think you misunderstood me, because I was trying to say, very nicely, that I can tell this is your first competitive game. I've been playing them since Halo came out in 2001, and the kind of game you wish for MWO to be would not work as a competitive game. People my age just wouldn't play it, and you need the people my age for it to succeed.

Bu it is about competing. I came here to be an inner sphere player just so I could test my chops against "The Clan Invasion". That mean I cam here expecting to lose 80% of my games or more for 2+ years and occasionally pulling of a grand upset. then move on to Huntress and see if we could beat the Smoke Jags as written. That is the game I was told I was joining! A day to day realtime recreation. We still don't have the game at all yet. and I see the measure of the average player. The game would not let me into a harder mode

Given how elo is "supposed" to work, those to pairings (elite vs Average) should never happen, regardless of Tech level...

none of those games are shooters... this one is... MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR difference.
At the end of everything you need to realize that and understand the types of people that play shooters as well. This is geared towards them.
Honestly it sounds what your looking for is a roleplay, not a shooter or simulation. Which is fine and I approve highly, in fact my guild does this quite abit... that said, your not gonna find that here.

First, players would need to learn TACTICs, Then about Over lapping fields of fire, the proper application of Suppressive fire. I was on a series of losses with my alt Anton Last night. What I was was more coordinated teams kicking the {Scrap} out of my teams! It was actually beautiful to watch a real team cut the the chaff that was my teams!
