I always was curious about why they never hosted their own OFFICIAL TS server. From a business perspective I can see wanting to save money I suppose by having a community-run one, but still...

Compared to the infrastructure for hosting/maintaining the game and all of the parts of their web content, running any one of the VOIP server packages out there, even at the scale they would need, should not be such an issue.

Yes, integrating it with the matchmatking system might take some developer time, but so be it. I don't care if the explosions look pretty if I'm the one exploding because I can't communicate ... in a highly team-oriented game ... that almost wholly relies on random matchmaking.

I recently took a 6+ month break from MWO, just didn't feel like playing it and had other stuff on my mind.

Returning, I couldn't have been happier. Lots of the things that annoyed me had been resolved. Game feels far more balanced, collisions are back in, LRM's no longer insta-melt everyone, lasers aren't any more über than PPCs... Ballistics aren't insta-win, Cataphracts don't seem to 'rock' my world quite as badly anymore (I don't get stunlocked if I start getting an AC barrage) etc.

Yeah, I'd say it's gotten better. But that's just me.

Seems many of the loudest whiners in various forums have stopped playing about the same time I went on my break, but still scream and raeg as if nothing has changed since they left.

I'd hope for many things out of CW, but it'll probably not be what I'm hoping for. UI2.0, current UI seems sufficient if a bit clunky to me, DX11, my computer can barely handle current stuff so I don't worry about that...

What I want is gameplay balance (seems about okayish now, some tweaking every now and then but...) and content. And with the new maps, bunch of new mechs, new gamemode etc. there seems to be a good stream of content coming in constantly. I hope Community Warfare will bring in some much-needed context and 'high-end' combat with real repercussions and persistant campaign. I think it won't, but I have some ideas on how such could be implemented...

I guess technically I "quit" a while back still in beta. My reason is very simple: this game does not feel like a real "MechWarrior" game. My expectation was an actual "campaign" with an attempt at recreating some story/battles from the BT universe with a focus on doing these missions cooperatively OR against other players. I was expecting multiple objectives, various conditions/limitations on tonnage/equipment, and an economy where Assault mechs WERE the largest, meanest, AND most expensive things players had to WORK-UP TO. Instead, this game turned-out to be a pretty shooter with some MechWarrior mechanics in an endless deathmatch-type PvP game. For that, I have World of Tanks, several Battlefield games, and a host of other titles with this sort of mode tacked-on for when you finish a stunning single-player campaign. After all is said and done, I was at least hoping the sort of tactical mission-driven combat would be implemented into this game at some point, however I have not seen it yet, so I have not had a reason to return. Just remember for MechWarrior fans (personally, I played 1-5 with every expansion), what makes a MW game what it is are the structured MISSIONS that play-out dynamically based on your load-out... not a 'me-too' team deathmatch like every other game out there... hell, if this game was more like Battlefield with mechs (even without the on-foot/infantry part), this would have been my favorite game ever. The core is there... just nothing else.

Lastly, I NEVER had a problem with the balancing in this game. Some configurations were "better" than others, but that never bothered me. 100% of what bothered me was what I mentioned above about this game not offering the mission structure of every MW game I have ever played. That whole "epic" feeling of crashing through a base and blowing a nuclear reactor, taking-out a convoy, or scouting for an artillery strike is just not there for me... that does not make me a "whiner" because this is the only time I felt inclined to share why I don't care to play anymore... and no I am not "ragequiting," deleting, or giving away my account in case I want to return at some point. B)

Is it just me or did this thread about why people QQ turn into a QQ thread?

So .. why do folks threaten to leave? I don't think it has any impact on PGI ... they know exactly how well or poorly they are doing retaining players.

Question is, do they care? ... They don't, thus people see no reason to care either and leave. Units can't play this game because you are always stuck with at least 8 random PUGers most likely with no clue, or stuck waiting for 2 hours to find a 12 v 12. Inability to play with YOUR team in team-based game is what makes a lot of people leave.

Because it doesn't quite seem free-to-play for those of us whose love of MechWarrior PGI played like a fiddle...

...However, thats not what gets to me: PGI made a free-to-play game, so what if they profit from it from those willing to pony up? Well, myself and a great many others have invested time and time again on nothing more than faith and good will, and the things that really matter still are not here...

I think the point that the OP was trying to make is why BOTHER crying about it? Whether or not you feel you got fleeced by PGI is irrelevant. I will give a real world example. If you go to Apple and purchase the new iPhone 5 based on the fact that it has "retinA" technology which is supposed to be better than everything else and when you get it, it looks exactly the same as the iPhone4 which gives you such rage as to want to throw the phone...are you going to post on Apple's forums that you "quit" and are never going to buy an iPhone again? Or are you going to go back to the store, and try to get a refund, and then never buy it again? No one on these forums really cares about whether or not someone quits. I highly doubt that PGI cares either. They have metrics that are reviewed I'm quite sure DAILY (I'm in sales, we review DAILY) on where their player base is both those contributing funds and those that are "content". You can bet your bottom dollar that this forum is not one of those metrics. The point everyone else is trying to make is that the act of writing a post that says "I quit" is a sad cry for attention, which smacks of "look at me, listen to me!!!" and chicken little. It is also a lie in most cases, as I see people continue to post in the forums that quit about how terrible the game is with the latest change. (I thought you quit? How do you know about this change?) The people who really quit? They just walk away and never play or post again. And trust me, PGI tracks those people better and more than the ones who post about it on the forum.
