There are no wrong ways to play. There are less effective ways, but that does not make them wrong.

This game and all shooters are based off using cover to your advantage. If you are just running at someone shooting constantly without using cover in this game. Then yes, you are doing it wrong.

This is not a statement ment to be mean. This is a simple fact. Stated in hopes of shocking the senses enough to get someone not to do this.

This made me LOL. The only reason I even comment on it is because I'm sick of idiots with this failed mentality causing losses because they hold cover to a point where they've failed to support their team and consequently cost their team the win.

To quote an old Kenny Rodgers song:

"You gotta know when to hold em'
know when to fold em'
know when to walk away
and know when to run"

While cover has an extremely important part in MwO, equally as important is knowing when to fall back, when to push, when to flank, when to dig in and wait, and when to sacrifice yourself by drawing enemy fire and turning them so the line can push.

If you really wanted to break it down, MwO is all about knowing WHEN to do WHAT of the above.

As far as the UAC being scrap, They do really well on my Jaegers, so I'm confused as to how they're "junk", but to each their own. Certain mechs and weapons just seem to "work better" for some people, and I'll take my 500-700+ damage matches as testament that UAC5 still works for *ME*. Make of that what you will.

So a slight boost then. :D

I like high damage, tweak convergence to loosen up damage and things will be better. :D

Well, I dunno so I tried to compare how much damage can be exchanged within 5 or 6 seconds.

If my math is right here is how they could stack up:

equally tired of players running to there death needlessly. Do you honestly support players not taking cover to best take advantage of dps? Taking cover does not mean you do not take advantage of opportunities. Encouraging people to not take and utilize cover is unwise at best.

My comment is based off the concept of dps not being any type of viable option for actually deciding weather a weapon is good or not.

I like the way the UAC5 is tuned now and back when the jam rate was 15% it was VERY OP.

As of now it is unreliable and absolute garbage if you only take one of them.

I'd rather it stay screwed for mediums/lights tho instead of Heavies/Assaults with insane OP DAKKA again.

If your math is right and Ultras didn't jam on a whim in my game, I'd love to use em. But i don't get those kinds of fire rates nor damage results. :D

Still, managing ~50 damage or so over 5 seconds with two UAC/5s is not too shabby.

If I could average that, I'd agree with you. Ultras just don't wanna fire for me! B)

UACs in multiples are fine. UACs as singular weapons are not. The end. If you want to ask for something to be fixed in relation to the UAC, ask them to figure out a way for it not to jam when you only fire a single round. Wouldn't that be nice? Some of us don't lay down on the button and spray/pray.

The other day I found a way to make UAC5 jam mechanic a little less noticeable. This if for 3 UAC5:

two weapons group 1 chainfire group 2 standard. Use chain fire under normal circumstances and fire group 2 when you need burst damage. yes its going to jam almost immediately, but if your holding chain and standard fire it really pumps out the dps until it jams.

When it jams its usually not all 3 at the same time so you still retain some usability.

This illustrates one of the best uses of the uca-5. you do large burst damage until you start to jam and then fall back to cool off and unjam. attack then fade. pick your time to attack carefully and you can gut someone in seconds.

when faced with multiple players using ac-s like all the time. positioning and ambushing becomes extremely important.
people fail in this and like to trade damage. yea you got someone but your torso armor is now red at best and gone normally.

PGI know how to balance. They love the walking waiting simulator. Waiting Warroir Online, while we wait for heat to go down or guns to unjam. Nicely done, i wonder what "Balances" theyll bring in the future.

That's great, Bob, but, as I said, that does nothing for people that are trying to run a single UAC. I have the damned thing jam on my all of the time when I fire a single tap (ie, only one shot). I can't rely on another group to work around the jerked up jam rate. In essence, if you only have 12-13 tons to play with and you're dead set on 5 damage per shot, take the AC5 and an extra ton of ammo and remove the headaches.

i run a single uac5 on my hunchback, 2 machine guns, 2 large lasers and a medium laser. When the uac jams i fall back on my lasers. I dont see a problem here?

its a high risk high reward weapon. Take a secondary weapon like a few lasers if your worried about the jam of it.

Maybe I'm not explaining it properly. The UACs are only supposed to jam when you double fire. But, UACs often jam when you only single fire. So, you're in a situation where you're screwed if you ramp up the fire rate or when you don't. What's the point of the UAC if you don't want to use it the same way every time but still pay the price?

see above post, use other weapons on your mech when it jams. Or dont use the weapon and use the ac5 if your scared of the jam chance. I like rolling the dice myself and come out ahead the vast majority.

curiously though what mech are you only running one uac5 on?

Hrm, I had (past tense) a BJ-1 build with a UAC5 and a PPC and a (past tense) SHD-5M with a UAC, PPC, and Streaks. I still run my 3D with a PPC, UAC5, and 2 Lrg Lasers and is the only mech that I don't worry about the jam issue.

found the black jack tends work better with an ac20 myself. Though the issue might be your relying on two many large weapon systems there. Consider perhaps running the uac5 and a few medium lasers instead and more heat sinks? Might work out better.

after looking over a few of your builds though it looks like your mixing direct fire weapons and more brawling weapons (ppc/uac5) Maybe try and set your uac5 with more supportive weapons for it?
