Remember that the Spider was once the most despised and pathetic of all lights.

I would really liked to like the Locust, but the cockpit as it is is so lousy that I wouldn't take the mech if it were the best light around!
As I scout I need to see! As much as possible, whenever possible. The Locust cockpit does not allow me to do that.
I also thought that they would introduce the Locust with a higher speed cap but they didn't. The Commando can still carry a decent loadout at top speed which just wastes the Locust in comparison.
As it is: Although they are both the low end of the tonnage in MWO, the Locust loses in every regard, even decisively. And from a design viewpoint: undfortunately unnecessarily.

Even if you get Mixed Tech upgrades later, at 20 tons, the Locust does not have enough armor to survive in a fight.
Do yourself a favor: Master only the Phoenix Variant and sell off the rest for scrap.
Hop back into a BattleMech that is actually worth it's tonnage!

If nobody would ever play them then they would take them out of the game or replace them or modify them. And the explanation that it provides a challenge is obsolete as no decent pilot would ever lose against a locust no matter what they pilot as long as it is anything but a locust. Which is why a locust pilot would always hope for - or depend on other pilots below mediocrity skills. I was attacked by two locusts repeatedly that ran zigzag and wildly tried to swarm me. And they died. Only when there are 3 or more locusts do they become too much to handle. I've killed two locusts in a shadowhawk, a stalker, a victor and a hunchback when it was a fresh (nobody damaged) 1 vs 2 scenarior. So tell me why anybody would play that thing haha.
All it can do is maybe sneak in the last shot of an already 99 % destroyed mech. In a locust you are no valuable asset in a team and render yourself not only useless but counterproductive in terms of winning.
The only viable logical explanation would be in terms of team weight issues. But so far weight is irrelevant. That's why the locust is also irrelevant

Can we go back to that? It's still probably the 'most despised' though for different reasons

I only have 8 mech bays to work with, 2 of which are taken up by Spiders and 1 of which is taken up by a Jenner (technically 9, but one is permanently locked to Sarah's Jenner).

They are not. Stop embarasing yourself, sell them and make yourself usefull to the team.

But those legs... oh the humanity! I'm pretty sure they have battlemaster leg hitboxes.

Ironically, the Locust would be usable if, and only if we had 1) a light Ballistic weapon (see the Light Rifle or Mech Mortar 1) or 2) if LRMs were viable in small numbers. But, we don't have new/old tech and LRMs outside of 15s and 20s are useless thanks to AMS packs and ECM. I run my 1V with an ER Lrg and 3 MGs but I can't get anywhere to use the 2.5 tons of MGs. If I do, I get legged/torsoed and I die. And if stay at range, then I've invested 2.5 tons for nothing. It is a really harsh dichotomy that makes the Locust very unfriendly. There is a niche where it is viable but we simply don't have the tools to make it so (outside of the 3M).

Rifles are pre-AC weapons, and suck a -3 penalty to damage against mechs. Have fun doing zero damage with that thing. Mortors are more akin to missiles than ballistics, but I could see them either way. LRMs are viable as either larger racks or large numbers of 5ers. I run 4xLRM5 on ne of my Orions, and they put out decent damage because of their RoF.
As for using MGs with the LL on the 1V, they're back up weapons. Stop thinking you need to get use out of them every drop. Hell, I have a BLR with 2xPPC, LL, and 4xML, there are several times I barely use the PPCs, but I would not trade out the long range capacity.

Unless they "break" the hitboxes on it like the spider currently is, this thing is a paper weight
