Do it some more, so that the people that take those reports can laugh in their face.

Dude was totally ticked off, he threatens to report me for intentionally overheating to kill myself. I admit I definitely died on purpose, but it's not like I was at the starting drop point and did it to kill myself to go to the next match. I was trying to kill the dude to give my teammates an edge to victory.
So I ask? Is that a dishonorable tactic or was it the honorable and right thing to do?
Personally I'd be flattered that you pushed yourself so hard to take me out.

"So this is the power of the override. no bad, not bad at all."
But seriously though, i'd say that a M.A.D. attack is fair.

You died, but to help the greater good of your team. You did the right thing. In fact you did the quintessential alpha strike. Guy was ticked because you did something he would have wished he could do. Simple as that.
As for honorable... thats something a clanner would have done in BattleTech lore given the circumstance (outnumbered, and must stop the enemy at all cost). You don't get anymore honorable then that.

My girl said something about that, it was in another game and more then 10 years ago, but it is still true:
If an enemy goes mad after you have done something in a game, you have done it right.

Unluckily for him, you blew his face off and made him look a greedy, cowardly no skill fool.
I say, good job! I bet you smiled:)

*) an opponent.
But is this a balance topic, or someone one would rather post in General Discussion?

All is fair in love and war.
If someone is trying to kill you. You kill em' right back!
Think that covers it.

However, even if you were standing by yourself on the corner of the map ... the last one on your team in a situation where you were going to lose anyway ... I don't see anything wrong with overheating or running out of bounds to end the match. The rules say you have to come to play ... you can't be afk ... but if after fighting it is clear you have lost (personally, I don't give up but I can certainly see it as an option) ... then I don't see anything wrong with blowing yourself up. It's not as if you have to stand around waiting to pad someone's kill board ...

Despite everyone telling the guy it was legal his response was: "I dont care im reporting it anyway"
There is no shortage of these people. Oh and yes overheating to melt your opponents face is legal (and REALLY gratifying) I try to do it as much as possible (when the situation warrants) and have managed some funny matches including:
multi kill override deaths
last kill overriide death (try this one its truly epic, and depending on how late the explosion is sometimes you still get the salvage bonus for being alive at end of match)

^^ This.
As far as the "i`m gonna report you for that" BS in the OP:
By far the worst thing about this game is people making up rules in their head that don`t exist and then chastising others for not playing by them, and it`s negative effects are much more widespread than most would expect.
I say just have a glass of Fukitol and keep on trucking.

Let them rage man. I constantly over-ride my shutdowns to get those final shots in. ESPECIALLY if 4-5 guys are shooting me at once, if your gonna go down anyhow, no point in letting the mech shutdown. If she blows up, so much the better, deny those scum a kill for jumping you with 5 mechs

It's a valid strategy/last minute tactic to resort too. Shutting down is about the worst thing you can do in a fight, and unless you must to save blowing up your mech, you may as well over-ride it.
