I have basics completed on two other variants, elite completed on Commando-2D with 22,000 mech points but the extra module is still greyed out. What's up?

If I remember correctly, you must have the elite efficiencies unlocked on 3 chassis in the same weight class in order to unlock the master slot.

Yep. If Commandos are your first light, you'll have to take all three through elite.

Strange. I've mastered 7 different types of mech and only completed the secondary variants at the basic level but I was allowed to take the one I wanted all the way to mastery.

That is strange. It's always worked as explained for me: three variants of a chassis through basic to open elite for the chassis, three variants in a weight class to open master for any variants in that weight class.

Is this your first LIGHT mech? If so, then yes you have to Elite either the other two, or buy another LIGHT mech and Elite two of them.

Again, 3 mechs taken to Elite in a GIVEN WEIGHT CLASS to unlock Master.

I would guess you Elited 3 mechs in a weight class before you picked one to Master and thus never ran into this.

you need to unlock Basic three times (three mechs of the same chassis) to unlock elite.

you need to complete Elite three times within the same weight class(not limited by chassis, just weight class) to unlock Master.

If you only own three lights, you need to get all the Elites for all three of them.

If you own 6 lights, you may already have enough Elited to unlock master for your second triplet.
