But anyways, there are some mechs in this game that will just suck. cough (locust)

Or drive a pilot up a wall no matter what variant or build they use. Thunderbolt.

TL;DR

MWO will have lame duck mechs. Nothing we can do about it. or "What you talking about Willis!" I can rock that [scrap] like no one's business!

Thats a shame, the 5V is a ******* blast when mastered, equipped with the biggest engine and all 12 jump jets. I dont get a lot of kills with it, and its rare to go over 200 dmg but its an unbelievable recon platform/conquest mech. You can jump clear across the lake in caustic. You can go straight over the wall in hpg and immediately start in on the center point or pop UAV over their entry gate. You can boost UAV's higher over the enemy than most can even AIM at. You can fly over their formation and call strikes in as you pass overhead. Hell, I've managed to die from out of bounds vertical in it. Build it right and give it another shot

The 4X Raven is actually pretty fun now as a light skirmisher, and it's got virtually no heat issues with 2 MLs, 2 MGs, and an SRM6. With JJs and a 275, it's pretty mobile. I almost kept mine (and might eventually buy it back). Heck, I was pretty formidable without DHS in that thing.

The 2X is inferior to the Jenner though, with it's lack of JJs and similar hardpoints. It turns slightly better and climbs better, but that's about it.

Slow Raven pilot here.
Short answer: give me 4 millions cbills and I will outfit the Raven with the big engine, otherwise bear with it until I grind enough money to buy one.

I'm actually using the 2x just to master the 3L and then I will sell it, so no point in spending money on it.
I will keep the 4x because after I slapped an A/C 5 on it out of frustration I find it quite enjoyable.

I run a Raven 3L with ECM, BAP, 2 ERLL with a speed tweak of 129 MPH. Max armor as well. Holds up pretty well.

I'm with Khajja frankly. It seems some people REALLY underestimate the Raven......I'd imagine the slow Ravens are new players who lack the cash or perspective to run XL engines.

Don't get too cocky about Ravens peeps-they are better than you think and there are a few very effective builds out there!

I just find it hilarious to pop people with my AC10 Raven. Prefer that over an AC20 since you can carry more shots.

Before ECM you would see no Ravens on the battlefield. Lights were all Jenners. For good reasons too. Ravens were squishy, slow and did little damage. Sure, there were a few masochists playing them, some even played Cicadas!

Obviously ECM changed the game. Collisions were disabled and hit boxes and weapons tweaked to make lights more viable.

I had the cash to outfit my Raven variants well when I levelled to get elite with the 3L and had quite some fun. But then I am currently almost done with the Locusts and liked the Thunderbolts. Maybe I am just easily amused :P

Slow Ravens are the equivalent of tiny gunboats to be honest. I think someone already explained in this thread-we could only have smaller engines at the beginning for the X brothers. So we put big ol' guns on our little birds. Or looked for max damage + weapon up time to make ourselves a medium with less armor. And a slightly smaller hitbox.

Now....MUAHAHAHAHA

Edit: Also, whoever dissed the Locust...DIE BY MACHINEGUN FIRE! O,..,O Patta-patta-patta on yo hull bro.
