Since there is no Marauder mech in the 1:1 actual timeline game itself, the new players may have wondered how it has the inner sphere name "mad cat".

It was a combination of names of current inner sphere mechs it resembled. CATapult (In game now) and the MArauDer (Unseen mech aka Glaug, or Officers pod.)

2 solutions exist.

The 1st one is the name of this topic.

The 2nd is to simply introduce a (legal image complying) Marauder mech before the overpriced clan mechs are available.

There are plenty of existing IS mechs that don't appear in MWO, the Marauder merely one of them. I don't see why the Mad Cat should have to change its name because of that.

Seriously this must be the stupidest Idea I HAVE EVER SEEN. PGI's glass effects were way better than this.

Actually, the first part comes from the Marauder's model designation (e.g. MAD-xx).

Also, it should be noted that the Cataphract (also in-game in MWO) is also based heavily on the Marauder; the former is in fact a FrankenMech that was designed using the legs & Right Arm of the Marauder (along with some components of the Shadow Hawk (notably, the Left Arm; moreover, the SDH is also in-game in MWO) and the Phoenix Hawk (mostly noticeable in the front part of the torso)).

The original CTF-1X Cataphract artwork:

I wonder how the first scans of that would have looked on an opposing 'Mech's target ID...

What about just designating it "Timberwolf"?

Even better, if one can dream, i would like that 'Mechs piloted by an Inner Sphere player use the IS designations while 'Mechs used by Clan players are programmed to use the original Clan names..

I like the glass..

But I agree this is the stupidest idea I've ever seen! Let's call the Timber Wolf a CAT, because the CATapult isn't important or anything.

Or you could call it the cat cat as its more of a Catapult with Cataphract arms... but that doesnt soudn half as intimidating as a mad cat... Cat cat sounds more like something small, cute and fuzy instead of small insane and dontcallitfuzzyoritwillripyourheadoff.
