Actually, there is true newtonian physics in ED. The in-atmosphere flight feel is the result of flight assist mode, which automatically applies reverse thrust. You can toggle flight assist on and off with the Z key.

Both time the hide and seek made me jizzed a little.

Hopefully it will be ready by end of the year, my work schedule was crazy the first half of the year. I hardly manage to clock in 20 hours weekly in MWO the past few months.
Once things wind down in October, I will get to spend more time with games.

BTW, is docking have to be manually done everytime?

Currently in the closed beta docking has to be done manually done everytime, however that is supposed to be changed before release. In the final version of the game there are supposed to be module slots for computer upgrades. These will function almost exactly like MWO's module slots, but be less game changing / more along the lines of computer software upgrades.

In any case, the first announced module is an autodocking module; there will be one for astrogation too (supercruise autopilot), and other modules will be things like target lead indicators, cargo scoop aid, etc.

Picked up a 1v2 footage from the same guy's channel. I'm now officially sold on ED. Holding my pocket till the game comes out.

It's almost artful.

It plays more like descent:freespace then descent II, but at the same time, it feels more like descent II then descent:freespace did...

That is good to hear.
I probably died to more crash landing in flight sim than from enemy aircraft.

The best substitute for Elite Dangerous is Oolit, a freeware remake of the old Elite.

Get it from this website, it's one of the best bulids.
http://www.elitefore...o.uk/games.html

On the same side is also a download of Frontier First Encounters 3D3.
It's a complete Package of the original Frontier First Encounters (Elite 3) with a new engine, new models and new textures.
FF 3D3 is shareware (free to use for 30 day, and now DRM to enforce it), and there is a Thread about this mod in the official Frontier Forums with newer builds and patchs.
I strongly recommend to use a joystick and a keybinding tool (Joy2Key, X-Padder, Saitek Profiler, ect) because the game is so old that it only supports on button.
It's nice, and you will learn why Elite Dangerous dosen't have real newtonic flight :)

By the way, I spend yesterday 80 €uros on Elite Dangerous and the Lifetime Pass. ;)

I wouldn't go that far. SC's fake commercial for Anvil Hornet is way better imo.

This could have been three times as long and have a little bit of story. Disappointed, to say the least.

Creating movies and cutscenes is Chris Robert's thing tho. David Braben is more into creating interactive games you can actually play.

Actually, the game you are looking for is Pioneer Space Sim. It is very impressive. Hard to play without head tracking if you are used to it, but really really really well done.

What's not a bad thing.

I liked the first Wing Commander very much, because Chris Roberts used the cut scenes very creative.
The landing cutscene for example showed how much damage your fighter had taken.
The campaing was also excellent, with two different endings and multiple turning points.

Star Lancer wasn't bad either, the dogfights were funny and the presentation (mission briefings !) state of the art.

But Elite - well it's Elite, the godfather of all Space Sims.
I don't expect a great story in Elite, because that's a game I want to explore.

I expect a great story (or at least a state of the art presentation) in Squadron 42, with some great dogfights.

And I'm confindent that Braben and Roberts won't disappoint me with their games.
Both showed with Frontier and Star Lancer that they are able to do such games.

3rd beta patch is out - less than 24 hours between patches? Insanity.

Meanwhile, I've upgraded my ship to a hauler, doing long distance cargo runs now. Almost have enough for a viper... stupid work getting in the way.

That's always a good idea.

And don't forget to download Freespace Open Scoure (new exe), its media.vps (upgraded models & sounds) and the Freespace port (remake of Descent: Freespace the Great War) and Silent Thread Reborn (Remake of the Silent Thread Campaing).
