Because, you know: You have to buy in at all to play in the first place … ;)

You know your game is bad when EA turns around and says, "let's do what they're doing."

You should read the context of the rant.

A open beta is meant for testing and getting/taking feedback seriously (which encompasses bugs to balance and various other things). If you're not taking feedback seriously, then the point of selling stuff is to make money and the beta "tag" is there for show.

It also has the expectation that the "things you promise" should actually get into the game... for beta testing. AngryJoe is completely spot on with his criticism and although it's true you can play this game w/o paying... he did mention grinding and testing... but whatever.

Let us remember that Russ's reference to UI 2.0 is all about the store. AngryJoe's right about the store... it's fully functional. UI 2.0 is Store v2.0.

There was already a topic for this but EGOMANE moved it to jettisoned on grounds of AJ cussing.

I love Angry Joe and agree with most of what he said with the exception of using the Founders program as an example of an early cash-in. There were plenty of other things MW:o had up for sale during closed/open beta. If he was going for "no cash at beta" angle, not sure why he didn't bring up Star Citizen because it is a great example of a paid preview, with bundle prices far surpassing MW:o's founders.

Other then that, unfortunately for us, it is spot on.

You didn't have to pay to participate in the MWO beta. Closed or open.

The closed beta is a bit of a stretch since entry was limited to invite only, which excluded everyone besides the few thousand people that got the invite over the course of a 3 month period.

But they kindly offered a way to pay to get in.

There were plenty of us in closed beta before the Founders pack was even announced. They even let people in without it *after* they announced it.

Open beta was fully open to boot.

back when i saw joes walkthrough of mwo with totalbiscuit

he looked/sounded kind of sour when playing it

as in not his kind of game

like muttering 'lame' under his voice (well ingame stuff happened too) when biscuit was trying to be enthusiastic about mechwarrior online lol

Edit: oh man first 10 seconds of video made it good already ;)

"Free to Play" means "hoping some doe trickles in sooner rather then later."

Y'all keep carping you gave money too soon, and it's someone elses' fault

In fairness wasn't it pcgamer that gave out invite codes.. It was less secure so 1 mag spawned thousands of codes ;)
