The chance with a arty can headshot a mech is ridicoulis....
One arty 3 Headshots with one strike.
And this happens often.
min. every second strike gives a Headshot....



BTW: how can a strike headshot a DDCs Cockpit?
The bullte can fly a 90° curve into his eye or what?

I still have yet to be headshot by arty or airstrike yet.

I basically have rarely been hit by arty or air yet tho also so........

Of the times I have been creamed there were no headshots.


Still, imo, arty / air should do no dmg to the head at all or a very reduced amount. (purely for balance reasons)

I have used artillery more then 150 times in december.
Number of headshots: Zero
Even on the strikes that exceeded 600 damage.
A few destroyed limbs on lights mechs here and there, or kills when there where weak or open torso armor.

I'd really like to see some real evidence for this, as I can't seem to replicate it on my own.
My theory: Maybe the victims reduce their head armor and are therefore more prone to be killed by the artillery splash damage?

I play conquest a lot so I have killed a few mechs with artillery strike mostly lights who are standing still.
Most of the time you see the red flare and get clear, not hard.

Wow you guys are really unlucky with your arty strikes, I've died the last 2 matches in a row from one-shot-kill arty head bombs, and god only know how many before that.

I've gotten at least a dozen kills the same way.

Lost a leg to artillery, but so far, that's the worst thing to happen to me.

I see it happen every few games. The rate is far too high.

The damage should just be scaled back to 20 per shell, would balance them and also stop the random head shots.

It comes from above, the head is on the top, some times it will happen, I use arty and air strikes allot and have killed a few mechs but only one was a head shot. But saying thats impossible is like saying my droping a truck off the roof and it killing you is impossible. will it kill you every time no it wont but it will kill you 50% of the time,

I've been headshot 3 or 4 times in my Ilya Muromets by Arty. It sucks. ;)

In 12mans, I got reports from my team mates in Jaegers and Stalkers to get headshot quite often. They no longer reduce their head armor anymore. ;)
Never happened to myself yet. But the same can be said about "normal" headshots. I got headshot in my Cat, Phract and Stalker a few times only (less than 5 each) since I own them.

Fixing the smoke showing up after the artillery/air strike and disable artillery/air strike while in 3rd person view should be on the list as well.

Headshots happen. 40 DMG per shell shouldn't be in, 30 is more accurate, with 12-13 shells (2-3 more shells) to achieve some higher area saturation and lessen the chance to get headshotted, while keeping inflicted damage to the 400 mark.

I as well as other members of the unit have had this happen several times, quite a few i have watched a highlander get headshot while jumping- one hit one kill. Several times.highlanders seem to be effected more than others. But have also been headshot in phracts, jagers and even at atlas, which should be impossible.

i think where the actual projectile starts, is armed and does damage need to be looked at as well. perhaps the angle of desccent.

Splash damage to the head is ok, but you should never be able to weild a no minimum no maximum range weapon and headshot anyone.

even if the damage stays the same i dont think the main shell damage should be able to headshot anyone- splash damage ok, but no 40pt head damage.

Same observations here with Highlanders, Catapults and Hunchies. However it's usually only one hit so unless I have no armor in the head, I'll survive it.

The real question here is; did those mechs suffer from a direct hit to the head or splash damage to the head.

If the shell/bomb hits a mech it does 40 damage to the part of the mech hit.

If the shell/bomb hits the ground it does 40 damage randomly splashed across each mech within 20/30m of the shell/bomb, and remember with 6 to 10 shells/bombs hitting the area it is possible to catch someone in mutiple splash effects.

Speaking from practice, it is very easy to kill a mech with a wounded head using the splash damage from the improved artillery strike.

i have been artied to the head more often in my CPLT then any other chassis, i strongly suggest action towards preventing a kill with such a method, it is unfair and unreasonable, even just damage resistance would do fine.

  • In 12 mans we spam strikes back and forth non-stop.
  • They land very, very frequently (on both teams)
  • I've seen 4 headshots in about two and a half months.
Translation: Somebody gets killed once by a headshot and immediately QQs on the forums about how "often" it happens, because damn it, that was totally not faiiiir.

much skill required in those headshots for sure... :P :ph34r:

and i am sure your random 12 man drops have been perfect tests to prove how often or not this really happens.

the issue i have is more with the fact that it does happen, then how often it does.

The Catapult very definitely has a problem. If you land an artillery barrage on that chassis, there's a 75% chance you'll score a one-hit headshot kill on it. It's happened to me four times in the last two weeks.
