Quad-PPC H-backs are actually pretty scary snipers, for a 50-tonner. (Heck, even a triple-tapper is). You just have a verrry slow fire rate if you push all the fire buttons at once, but it's enough to frag a light 'Mech at long range and give anything bigger a nice big hole to worry about. It's an example of taking frontloading your DPS to the extremes, but Prosperity Park can tell you about the plentiful smoking ruins he's left with one.

Dude, it's got 4 tons for an engine. 4 tons. And it can't run an XL, because it's got no critical space in its side torso. You're talking about running something like a STD 125, and even there you can't because you need to add additional external heat sinks.

Again, we're talking about the configuration where you jam everything into that one hunch. That's not really the correct way to build that mech. The "correct" (and I use the term loosely) would be to put at least one ppc into the arms.. So then you're left with the ability to run an XL 200, but still need to add two more heat sinks, so you have to strip your armor down to 240... which means you are running super thin armor on your legs and your non-hunch side. And it's got trash for heat efficiency.

And beyond that, it's still just a joke mech. It's like the Hunchback equivalent of the 6 ppc stalker. Totally non-viable against opponents who are remotely competent.

Only problem with the hunchback is it's so easy for enemies to take out the main weapons mount. That's why I don't use it anymore.

I like to look at it from a more "glass half full approach". It isn't easier for the enemy to destroy the main weapon, it is harder for me to protect it :)

Instead of thinking "Man, why take the mech out if the side torso is going to get blown off", I think "How do I pilot this mech to keep the side torso from getting blown off". Makes me a bit sneakier with it and a bit more...Ninja so to speak.

This is the best thread I have seen for a while. It almost makes it sure I want Hunchbacks for my future purchases.

As an Armored Core and former Chromehounds player, I totally approve of Legomechs. The more absurd the better.

Ah those were the days! The time we had a free battle with about 4 overweight hounds, gliding across mountains and out into oblivion as hundreds of howitzer and double cannon rounds splattered every tree on the map, not once even hitting another hound with even splash damage. If they ever make a Chromehounds 2, they need to put a wall of guns mode in!

Wow... that's some Hunchback!

Ghost heat will kill you, though.

Still love my Awesome, as bad as it is.

In my opinion, there's many loadouts that the Awesome is able to do that the Hunchies can't (and vice versa)

The Awesome is still in my top 4 mechs I pilot to date , I just confirmed it by checking my mech stats:)

It's a great support+long range mech (or you may call it LRM boat too)
Expect to see me in the AWS-8R on the battlefield !

The Awesome may be old, but fit it with 3 x PPC and rotate fire 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 and it can make a real mess of most things. Plus you get that sickening sound of the PPC's firing together; almost as good as the twin LBX10 Scattershot setups.

hmm lets see a 50 ton hunchback that over heats because of 4 PPCs and only goes 50 clicks.. or my 80 Awesome M, that goes 86 clicks doesn't over heat and has more armor and doesn't have all 3 of its PPCs in the same spot

ya... i'll take my awesome over a hunchback

I think the point of the thread is that the new interchangeable parts are killing the aesthetics of many mechs. Look at the pictures and see for yourself. Look as well at the catapults. The cat A-1 is now stuck either running stock with only 2LRMs and being near-useless, or looking terrible with the new welded on VCRs and side missiles. Please, please change the catapults (and looks like the hunchbacks) back!
