We saw an early concept model of the Razer Artemis Joystick a year and a half ago, then not a peep. In a search I see plenty of players asking about it so it would sell well for MWO especially if it was adapted specifically for MWO and Mech piloting.

I may need a new Joystick soon. My logitech force 3d pro is still working fine after seven years, but that's a record for any peripheral device or keyboard of mine so I expect it to wear out in the next year or so.

I will never play MechWarrior with a mouse. Only a joystick. Joystick is almost as accurate and Mech piloting is intuitive and natural with all controls except the throttle in one hand which is usually at rest until the battle is engaged.

PGI and Razer realized MWO isn't really optimized for joysticks and they dropped the project until further notice

Well MWO is certainly not optimized for a Mouse and Keyboard/Speedpad. I mean, go for it if you want, but MWO is best experienced with a Joystick. There is no confusion or adjustment period with joystick control of a Mech, you just press "Launch" and you are a Mech pilot.

Mouse and keyboard is like "where, what? why can't I turn now? I'm walking backwards???" 3PV doesn't change this discontinuity that a mouse brings. Sure you can learn it if you dedicate yourself, but I would rather offer a joystick option and let players hit the ground running if they want to spend $20-$30 on a joystick.

I don't understand why PGI doesn't promote and i guess enable the Joystick better, although mine works fine. I am always getting kills and assists with mine and figure into the top three players on the team usually so there is no lack of competition. I would not do as well with a mouse and that's a fact. PGI is just losing alot of possible MWO fans by not advertising MWO's Joystick functionality more. Of course they made that Gauss desync nerf which makes me believe no one at PGI uses a Joystick. tsk tsk guys, you are missing the best part of your game.

what the default controls for a joystick are terrible, you can walk alpha and set weapon groups, thats it
i also found the default sensitivity way too low

with a mouse on default its simple with fire group 1 and 2 and walk and turn
the only thing to get used to is not having to look where you are going

That's right, MWO needs a Joystick configurator in Options. Sensitivity and Gain sliders, and Smoothing checkbox.

Also PGI has the Turn and Rotation Axii flipped. Default for MechWarrior is X=Turn and RZ=Rotation as this allows you to Turn with the Torso rotated which is necessary for circle-strafing, the primary Mech attack.

I just use the User.CFG file for fine tuning, but this is something most players are unaware of and it is a Beta workaround that should have been incorperated into Options by now.

Anyway, MechWarrior is a joystick game. Using a mouse is like playing a high level Flight sim with a mouse. It's just a low quality experience.

oh? Personally, playing with a mouse and keyboard took me 2-3 matches at most to get used to. Mind you, I'm a big joystick defender and I even bought one for MWO (which isn't used to play MWO), but I still believe m&k gives the better accuracy and twitch reaction needed for the game.

I tried Mouse and Keyboard for about two weeks until they added Joystick support. It was miserable and I have a Nostromo speedpad which should have given me the easiest and most intuitive keyboard.

Once I got my joystick working my gameplay became much more competitive and I started getting positive numbers with an Awesome of all mechs. We didn't have ELO back then of course so it was just random Closed Beta opponents. The user.CFG and analog turn addition allowed me to compete fairly well with other players. Nowadays I place in the top three players on my team consistently and have won games as the last mech of the team, outnumbered and out-gunned. Not easily, but with only a modest joystick. So the idea that a mouse is the only way to compete at your best is a misconception. It's just a choice of what you like best.

Right now the mouse gets much snappier allignment of the two reticles, but that is a Bug that's never been fixed. The joystick gets better piloting and very accurate placing of the mech. I make snap-shots accurately with a joystick, but correcting aim takes a bit longer.

Anyway, better Joystick Support equals more players because there are many, like me, who will not play MWO/MechWarrior with a mouse under any circumstance. Give them the Razer Artemis as an option and it would make a splash in the growing world of mech sim-shooters.
